John Sans, Research Chemist at Gotion, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in research for vehicle battery components and electrolytes for medical applications.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Science from the University of Chicago in 1972 and a Master of Science from Yale University in 1974 in the department of geology and geophysics, Dr. Sans later continued his education with a Doctor of Philosophy in the same discipline from the University of Chicago in 1983. He provided superior education as an assistant professor with the department of geology at Ball State University for two years and subsequently as a principal scientist with Lockheed Engineering and Management Services Company at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston for two years, laboratory Manager with S.D. Meyers, Inc. in Tallmadge, Ohio for 10 years and as an analyst with Degussa Corporation in Akron, Ohio for two years, during which he studied silica for numerous applications.
From 2002 to 2009, Dr. Sans prospered as a research chemist with the Posnick Center of Innovative Technology at the Ferro Corporation in Independence, Ohio, where he worked on development of innovative anhydrous electrolytes to improve performance of lithium and lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors. Since 2012, he has found much success as a research chemist with Gotion, a premier innovator in electric vehicle and energy storage technologies such as lithium batteries and related systems, with the aim to accelerate electrified transportation and achieve sustainable development. There, Dr. Sans is concentrating on developing innovative anhydrous battery electrolytes, especially for medical applications, which are subject to Food and Drug Administration regulations for medical devices. Attributing his success to his passion for chemistry as well as to his parents, both of whom strongly encouraged education, Dr. Sans is most proud of his 2010 patent for triazine compounds. Additionally, being able to develop methods for the American Society for Testing and Materials has been his other career highlight. In the coming years, Dr. Sans is hoping to continue his work as a research chemist and continue his research on batteries, particularly for electric vehicles.
