Jorge Garcia-Sais, PhD, President at Reef Research Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in oceanography.
With decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Garcia-Sais has excelled as the president of Reef Research Inc. for more than 20 years. Prior to this appointment, he served as a professor, marine scientist and researcher at the University of Puerto Rico for nearly 25 years. A former professor in Guadalajara, he was formerly active with UNESCO and the World Wildlife Fund, for which he pioneered the coral reef studies in Haiti. As a testament to his stellar career, Dr. Garcia-Sais was recognized as the Coral Reef Researcher of the Year in 2006.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Garcia-Sais pursued an education at the University of Puerto Rico, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in natural sciences in 1977 and a Master of Science in 1980. He concluded his studies at the University of Rhode Island in 1991, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in biological oceanography. Attributing his success to his high quality of work and his unwavering dedication, he is incredibly proud of his efforts with the Puerto Rico Coral Monitoring Program, through which he has been able to improve the coral reefs dramatically and helped to preserve the marine ecology of Puerto Rico. Looking toward the future, Dr. Garcia-Sais hopes to continue to provide the best knowledge and expertise possible to further improve the state of coral reefs in Puerto Rico while fostering the future of the next generation of marine biologists.
