Robert Manning, Adjunct Faculty Member at Case Western Reserve University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in physics, engineering, and mathematics education.
Dr. Manning served as a senior scientist with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for more than three decades before his retirement, initially working as a professor at Case Western University before attaining this position. Long interested in teaching, he continued to work as an instructor in physics in a part-time capacity. Well regarded as a scholar in his field, Dr. Manning notably authored “Stochastic Electromagnetic Image Propagation Through the Atmosphere”, a graduate reference text for McGraw Hill concerning electromagnetic propagation through the atmosphere. His other research has appeared in such publications as the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, Waves in Random and Complex Media, the Russian journal Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics, and Optics News.
Driven by his determination to understand the fundamental principles of physics, Dr. Manning initially earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from Case Western Reserve University in 1980. He followed this accomplishment with a Master of Science in 1982 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1986 from the same institution. In his current work, Dr. Manning’s specialties include atmospheric imaging, random wave atmospheric propagation and adaptive optics. Likewise, he has researched energy conversion for studies in planetary exploration.
Owing to his professional advancements, Dr. Manning was the recipient of the Exceptional Technology Achievement Medal, awarded by NASA in 2019, among other service accolades from the agency. He was also listed in American Men & Women of Science in 1993.
