Ali R. Fazely, PhD, Professor Emeritus at Southern University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in physics.
With more than 40 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Fazely has held the designation of professor emeritus of physics with Southern University since 2019. Prior to this distinction, he excelled with the aforementioned university as the acting chairman of the physics department from 2009 to 2013, a professor of physics from 1998 to 2013, an associate professor from 1992 to 1998 and an assistant professor from 1991 to 1992. Invited as a guest scientist in the physics division at the Lawrence Berkely National Laboratory from 2003 to 2005, he previously found success as a research assistant professor at Louisiana State University from 1990 to 1991, a senior research associate with Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1985 to 1990, a research associate with Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1982 to 1983 and a physics instructor with Langston University from 1977 to 1978. A member of the American Physical Society since 1983, Dr. Fazely notably wrote two approved grants in relation to his areas of expertise, including a $400,000 two-year National Science Foundation Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research grant and a $90,000 three-year Nuclear Regulatory Commission grant.
Before embarking upon his professional path, Dr. Fazely pursued an education at Oklahoma State University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1975 and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering in 1977. He subsequently concluded his studies at Kent State University, obtaining a Master of Arts in physics in 1980 prior to graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in medium energy nuclear physics in 1982. Recognized for his Outstanding Research in 2005, his book, “Foundation of Physics for Scientists and Engineers,” has been celebrated among the Top Ten Bestselling Physics Books on Bookboon.com. Having held a lifelong interest in the sciences, Dr. Fazely hopes to continue focusing on cosmology and astrophysics in the coming years, having become passionate about these disciplines after his involvement in a NASA balloon-borne experiment called Advanced Thin Ionization Calorimeter (ATIC).
