David A. Benko, PhD, an R&D fellow and consultant at David Benko LTD, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in chemistry and tire research.

Holding more than 24 patents and featured in numerous scholarly publications and requested presentations, Dr. Benko is the co-author of the 2022 study “Simultaneous Determination of Additive Concentration in Rubber Using ATR-FTIR Spectroscopy.” An expert in the materials development for vehicle tires, he has been honored by the National Science Foundation Center for Tire Research for his ongoing work. Dr. Benko’s most notable achievement was launching a program with the U.S. Department of Defense to develop a domestic source of natural rubber, taking pride in initiating the effort and demonstrating how important it is for the country. He attributes his success to having a supportive wife and family and his ability to guide others while helping his company grow.

Staying at the forefront of his industry for more than 40 years working with one of the country’s most recognizable brands, Dr. Benko was a research and experimental development (R&D) fellow, director of global materials, manager of materials development, head-of-section in compound science, and a senior research chemist at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He holds a PhD in physical organic chemistry from the University of Delaware and a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Union College as well as an active membership and editorial role at the Journal of Applied Polymer Science. Dr. Benko also was a member of the Advancement Council at the School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at The University of Akron, the Ohio Polymer Strategy Council, the Ohio Bioproducts Innovation Center, the United States Tire Manufacturers Association, and the Tire Society as its co-founder and former president. Over the next five years, he plans to stay active in the field and share his knowledge with others in the hopes that they, too, will be successful.
