Usman Iqbal, MD, MPH, MBA, the chief medical officer at Julz Pharma and a board member of the Humanity Talent Network, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the pharmaceutical industry.
Having accrued over two decades of valuable expertise in his chosen field, Dr. Iqbal has become recognized for his multifaceted roles in research and development, patient access, medical affairs, and value development. Bearing a particular specialization in the areas of value based drug development, medical economics and real world evidence (RWE), he presently serves as the chief medical officer of Julz Pharma and an industry consultant to small cap biopharmas and health care investment firms. Dr. Iqbal is a board member of the Humanity Talent Network – the latter being a premier professional network of healthcare executives who identify as people of color, and women. Likewise active as a clinical development and executive medical affairs consultant, Dr. Iqbal previously availed himself in senior positions on behalf of such companies as Acer Therapeutics, Trevena Inc., AstraZeneca, Sanofi Aventis and Amgen. In these roles, he was instrumental in fostering a strategic vision that enshrined innovation and optimal patient outcomes.
Dr. Iqbal initially pursued a career in medicine due to the influence of his parents, both of whom are physicians. After earning a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the Allama Iqbal Medical College at Punjab University in 1999, he went on to study at the Boston University School of Public Health, from which he received a Master of Public Health in 2003. Following this accomplishment, he attended the Boston University Questrom School of Business, graduating with a Master of Business Administration in 2007. During this time at BU, he completed his fellowship working as senior research fellow in health economics, outcomes and patient centered research at the Boston University Center for Assessment of Pharmaceutical Practices. Well-regarded for his subsequent accomplishments, multidisciplinary highly cited research and innovative biopharma engagements, he has gone on to earn an Outstanding Leadership Award from the Health 2.0 Conference in 2022, and has maintained his affiliation as a scientific advisor with several health care think tanks. Looking toward the future, Dr. Iqbal hopes to stand on the forefront of new developments in pharmaceuticals and aid in developing highly targeted, highly effective drugs for the right patients for years to come.
