Michael Patrick Dempsey, MLS, PhD, a clinical and research scientist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of medical science.

With more than 35 years of experience to his credit in his chosen field, Dr. Dempsey has distinguished himself through his work in various laboratory settings. Presently, he serves as a clinical and research scientist at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he assists the principal investigator in developing and executing research methods for the purpose of inventing new therapies for eye diseases. Additionally, he is a founding member of the Biosolutions Corporation, and has served in positions at Think Whole Person Healthcare Aksarben in Omaha, Nebraska, since 2022 and the Lynch Comprehensive Cancer Research Center of the Creighton University School of Medicine since 2020. Dr. Dempsey’s previous commitments include laboratory roles at LabCorp, the U.S. Air Force, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute, and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, among others. 

Dr. Dempsey was first introduced to medical science while serving with the U.S. Army Reserve, after which he joined the U.S. Air Force, through which he built upon his professional experience in a military laboratory setting. In addition to holding a Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, he also earned a Master of Science in pathology and microbiology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he also received a Doctor of Philosophy in microbiology and biodefense in 2006. Well-regarded for his scholarly prowess, he has gone on to co-author a number of articles through prominent research publications, including the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Military Medicine, and Pharmacogenetics and Genomics, among many others. Looking toward the future, Dr. Dempsey aspires to undertake a one-year course to obtain the certification he needs to qualify as a coach and mentor for his local church program, Regeneration, through which he hopes to serve on behalf of the community.
