Candace J. Johnson, PhD, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biology.

With 15 years of experience to her credit, Dr. Johnson has excelled as a postdoctoral research fellow at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles since 2022. Prior to this position, she was active as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Southern California from 2017 to 2020 and a biologist with Home from 2020 to 2022. She previously served as a PhD research associate at the University of Southern California from 2007 to 2015 and a postdoctoral fellow at the Western University of Health Science from 2015 to 2017. Dr. Johnson began her career as a research associate with LA BioMed from 2006 to 2007.

Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Johnson pursued an education at Compton Community College, from which she earned an associate’s degree. She continued her academic efforts at California State University-Dominguez Hills, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary studies in 2000, a Bachelor of Applied Science in biochemistry and molecular biology in 2005, and a master’s degree in biology in 2007. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Johnson concluded her studies at the University of Southern California in 2015, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in genetics, and molecular and cellular biology.

Outside of her primary responsibilities, Dr. Johnson has participated in numerous endeavors beyond her immediate circles. She has found success with her written works over the years, having co-authored published papers in such esteemed scientific journals as Biology of Reproduction in 2008, Cancer Genomics and Proteomics in 2016, and the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health in 2021. Likewise, Dr. Johnson remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise, including the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR), The IMDS, and The Andrology Society.

Dr. Johnson has attributed her success to her strong desire to help cure sick children. Initially seeking a degree in psychology, she subsequently discovered a passion for biology, which was further bolstered by her mother’s decision to return to school and become a nurse later in life. Looking toward the future, she aims to establish her own laboratory to pursue her projects and apply for grants specifically for her research on DNA methylation markers, which proved effective in 2017. Furthermore, Dr. Johnson hopes to become an assistant professor in the years to come.
