Dr. Ann-Marie La Ronde-Richard, director and patient engagement lead in the internal medicine unit at Pfizer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in science.
Dr. La Ronde-Richard transitioned from her home island of Dominica in the Eastern Caribbean to the United States to pursue her educational aspirations. Her academic journey commenced with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Suffolk University in Boston in 1995, followed by the completion of her PhD in pathology at Boston University School of Medicine in 2003.
Throughout her professional journey, Dr. La Ronde-Richard has found success within the medical and pharmaceutical landscape. She began as an associate scientist I in the animal science department at Autoimmune Inc. from 1995 to 1997. Transitioning to academia, she served as an instructor of medicine in the department of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine from 2005 to 2007. Subsequently, Dr. La Ronde-Richard held positions at Wyeth Vaccines Research from 2007 to 2010, starting as a senior research scientist I and later promoted to senior research scientist II in the enteroendocrine research unit. Progressing in her career, she assumed the role of principal scientist in cardiovascular, metabolic, and endocrine disease at Pfizer from 2010 to 2017, after which she worked as Pfizer’s patient and external association engagement lead from 2017 to 2020. Presently, Dr. La Ronde-Richard holds a pivotal post at Pfizer as the director and patient engagement lead.
Alongside her corporate commitments, Dr. La Ronde-Richard launched and leads the Dominican Health and Education Initiative, a nonprofit organization devoted to bolstering community health and education since its inception in 2013. Her goal through this project is to enhance the health and education sectors on the island, offering scholarships to students transitioning from elementary to high school and extending financial aid, tutoring, and mentorship programs. Additionally, she has established a mentoring initiative in collaboration with Boston University.
Throughout her career, Dr. La Ronde-Richard has been recognized for her remarkable contributions. Starting with her Trustees Ambassador Scholarship in 1997 to 1998, she swiftly carved a path marked by accolades, including the Women in Science and Technology Award and the Difference Maker Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
Additionally, she has maintained active roles in numerous organizations, serving as a co-lead for the Keystone Health Equity Workstream since 2023 and chair of community engagement at Pfizer’s ADVANCE Greater Boston since 2015. Her extensive involvement includes positions such as steering committee adviser for global patient advocacy, membership in the MassBio Patient Advocacy Long Table, and participation in groups like Women of Color in Pharma (WOCIP) and Color of Biotech Massachusetts.
In the coming years, Dr. La Ronde-Richard seeks to expand her philanthropic endeavors, champion the role of young female scientists, integrate patient voices into medical research, and advocate for early patient engagement in drug development. In addition, she hopes to highlight the significance of diversifying perspectives in science for innovation and fostering trust among underrepresented groups in research.
