Randy D. White, PhD, president and principal consultant at PreClinTox Services LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical devices and pharmaceutical toxicology.
Dr. White has dedicated over four decades as an entrepreneur and consultant in medical devices and pharmaceutical toxicology. He currently excels as the principal consultant of PreClinTox Services LLC, a role he has held since 2016. The company is comprised of a team with over 150 years of collective experience and a commitment to meeting client needs by navigating regulatory standards and industry expectations. PreClinTox Services specializes in comprehensive toxicity testing, chemical characterization, and risk assessment for medical devices and pharmaceuticals while also offering services for nutraceuticals and biologics.
Prior to this, Dr. White was the senior director of toxicology with WuXi AppTec from 2004-2016, director of toxicology with Baxter Healthcare from 1989 to 2003, and technical director of PharmTox Sciences from 2002 to 2003. Additionally, he was an adjunct assistant professor at Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences from 2001 to 2002, manager of toxicology at Baxter Healthcare Corporation from 1989 to 1994, and an auxiliary faculty clinical instructor for the department of family and preventive medicine at the University of Utah from 1989 to 1991.
Concurrently, Dr. White was an assistant professor of animal dairy and veterinary sciences department at Utah State University from 1986 to 1990, manager of toxicology at the Utah Biomedical Test Laboratory in 1989, and manager of animal toxicology with the Utah Biomedical Test Laboratory from 1988 to 1989. Additionally, he was a section manager of chronic toxicology and animal nutrition studies at the Utah Biomedical Test Laboratory from 1986 to 1988, a research assistant professor with the Department of Veterinary Science at Utah State University from 1982 to 1986, a research assistant at Oregon State University from 1979 to 1982, research assistant at Brigham Young University from 1976 to 1979, and a biological science assistant at the Letterman Army Institute of Research of Presidio national park from 1973 to 1976. He also served as a medical researcher with the United States Army for three years.
Dr. White has also found success as an author, penning chapters in “General and Applied Toxicology,” contributing to “Histologic Lesions Associated with Intravenous Infusion of Large Volumes of Isotonic Saline Solution in Rats for 30 Days,” “Characterization of the Immune Response in a Murine Anaphylaxis Model,” and “Acute and Subchronic Toxicology in Neonatal Rats and Mice and Young Adult Dogs, Rats, and Mice Intravenously Administered L-2-Oxothiazolidine-4-Carboxylate.” He has also contributed to approximately 85 publications and presentations in journals and professional meetings and has been invited to speak at various conferences and symposia. Additionally, he holds three US patents and one European patent, which include processes for reducing cyclophosphamide-induced hemorrhagic cystitis and preventing bone marrow hypoplasia.
Setting a solid foundation for his future career path, Dr. White pursued an education at Brigham Young University, earning a Bachelor of Science in animal science in 1972, followed by a Master of Science in animal science from the same university in 1978. Following these accomplishments, he went on to earn a PhD in animal nutrition and toxicology from Oregon State University in 1982. He furthered his expertise with a certification as a laboratory animal technologist from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science in 1979.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. White is a member of the Roundtable of Toxicology Consultants. He is also engaged in various civic organizations, including the US Technical Advisory Group, chair of the 18th and 15th Annual Meeting of the American College of Toxicology, and a high priest of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a position he has held since 1984.
Mr. White has earned numerous accolades throughout his career. Medtech Outlook named his company one of the Top 10 Medical Device Consulting Companies in 2022. He received the Baxter Technical Award and Outstanding Innovation Award in 2003, and the Applied Sciences Opportunity Award and Technology Resources Certificate of Achievement in 2002. In 2000, he received special recognition from Baxter Medication Delivery.
Mr. White won the biologics category at the Baxter Seventh Science and Technology Symposium Technical Poster Competition in 1997. Additionally, he was honored with the Baxter Corporate Research and Technical Services Achievement Award in 1995 and 1996, the Baxter Biotech Fenwal Division Recognition and Appreciation Award in 1995, and the Baxter Applied Science Fire Fighters Award in 1991 and 1992. He was also recognized with the Baxter Applied Sciences Outstanding Technical Contribution Award in 1991.
Throughout his career, Dr. White’s affiliation with the International Standards Organization and contributions to helping entry-level clients introduce new products and resolve regulatory issues stand out as his most notable achievements. Outside of his professional life, he spent 15 years playing, coaching, and refereeing rugby. In the coming years, he wants to spend more time traveling and living by the motto, “Keep it simple.”
