Dr. Dey began his career as an intern with Tata Consultancy Services, an information technology services and consulting company, in 2014.
To support his professional ambitions, Dr. Dey pursued an education at the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur in India, from which he earned a Bachelor of Engineering in computer science in 2015. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Science in computer science at Indiana University Bloomington in 2017. Dr. Dey concluded his studies at the CUNY Graduate Center, part of The City University of New York, in 2022, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in computer science with a focus on natural language technology and reinforcement learning.
Beyond his immediate circles, Dr. Dey has contributed to Bengal Engineering and Science University as a mess manager for the Senior Hall in 2014 and a gym captain from 2014 to 2015. In 2011, he exhibited his versatile skill set as a choreographer for the school dance team at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in India. Dr. Dey has found success with his written works as well, having authored such publications as “Rule-based Classifier BoolSet and it’s Characteristics” for ProQuest in 2017, “Gradual Syntactic Triggering: The Gradient Parameter Hypothesis” for the Routledge Handbook of Second Language Acquisition in 2020, “Variation in Old English Revisited: A Corpus-driven Approach” for the Journal of Historical Syntax in 2023, “Analysis and Modeling of Self-Reported and Observer-Reported Personality Scores from Text and Speech” for Speech Prosody in 2024, and “Positive-Unlabeled Sequence Learning for Extreme Multi-label Classification with Missing Labels” for the eBay AI Conference in 2024.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Dey has accrued several accolades throughout his career. Recognized as one of 12 invited speakers at the eBay AI Conference in 2024, he was notably presented with the Applied Researcher of the Quarter Award by eBay in that same year. He previously received the Campus Catalyst Award for Sustainability from Indiana University Bloomington in 2016. Having been notably ranked by the Science Olympiad in India and the 2019 Spanish Hate Detection Task Project by SEMEVAL, Dr. Dey additionally garnered second placement in the Rotary Quiz by Rotary International and third placement in the Vidyanjali State Quiz in 2007.
In the coming years, Dr. Dey plans to continue teaching in the United States while nurturing his career at eBay. He likewise aims to expand upon his research work and lead his team of engineers to publish more papers, especially in information retrieval (IR) and natural language processing (NLP). Ultimately, Dr. Dey hopes to establish himself as a renowned authority in the field of artificial intelligence.
