Vaishnavi Nagesh, senior data scientist at Mammoth Biosciences Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in research development and data science.

With nearly a decade of experience to her credit, Ms. Nagesh has established herself in data science, specializing in biotechnology and genetic data. She currently serves as a senior data scientist with Mammoth Biosciences, a role she has held since 2022-Present. In this capacity, she deals with various forms of data sets, deep learning algorithms, language modes, and machine learning for gene therapy, as well as identifying new drug and diagnostic targets. Prior to this, she was a Data Scientist at the same company from 2021 to 2022, a bioinformatics analyst at Arc Bio from 2017 to 2021, a bioinformatics Scientist at Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2016, a bioinformatics engineer at Affymetrix from 2014 to 2016, and a biophysicist and biologist for six years.

In addition to these accomplishments, Ms. Nagesh was an intern as a bioinformatics software developer at Genomic Health in 2014, a research assistant during her time as a graduate student at the Joint Genome Institute from 2013 to 2014, and biophysics at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences from 2008 to 2010. Additionally, she has found success in authoring several publications in relation to her studies, including “COVID-19 variant detection with a high-fidelity CRISPR-Cas12 enzyme,” “Evaluation of the Galileo Pathogen Solution Next-generation Sequencing Pipeline for the Identification and Quantification of DNA Viruses in Transplant Patients,” and ” Next-Generation Sequencing for Identification and Quantitation of Transplant-Related DNA Viruses,” as well as contributing to numerous articles published in professional journals.

Laying a solid foundation for her future, Ms. Nagesh earned a Bachelor of Engineering in biotechnology from Visvesvaraya Technological University in Belgaum, India, in 2007, a Master of Science in biophysics from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences in Bangalore, India in 2010, and a Master of Science in bioinformatics from San Jose State University in 2014. She also earned various certifications, including Exploratory Data Analysis, Getting and Cleaning Data, R Programming, and The Data Scientist’s Toolbox from Coursera, as well as a certification in Computational Biology with Java from the Certificate Program in Bioinformatics at the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2013.

Ms. Nagesh’s achievements include several notable patents: a patent for normalization controls for managing low sample inputs in next-generation sequencing (AU2019356016A1), a patent for a programmable nuclease diagnostic device (WO2022271873A2), a patent for systems and methods for identifying genetic phenotypes using programmable nucleases (WO2023097325A2), and a patent for systems, methods, and media for determining the relative quality of oligonucleotide preparations (EP4189109A1). She also takes great pride in developing a groundbreaking diagnostic test for COVID-19 that utilizes gene-based technology. Granted emergency approval by the FDA, the test is the first of its kind and enables her team to accurately identify different strains of COVID-19.

Ms. Nagesh attributes her success to her love of biology, technology, and sciences, along with the unwavering support of her family. Despite facing numerous challenges, she remained committed to her field, maintaining a strong work ethic and a continual eagerness to learn and make a positive impact on humanity. In the coming years, she envisions exploring more destinations with her husband while maintaining a healthy balance between her personal and professional life. She also aspires to develop a robust and innovative machine and deep learning platform that allows users to input a sequence and extract diverse drug targets. Additionally, she aims to uplift and recognize the achievements of women in science who contribute to the country’s progress and hopes to motivate and encourage aspiring young women to pursue their dreams in this field.
