Alejandra M. Petrilli, PhD, research scientist and postdoctoral researcher at AdventHealth, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biomedical and biomolecular research and development.

With over four decades of experience to her credit, Dr. Petrilli has established a distinguished career in research and development, specializing in biomedical and biomolecular science. She currently excels as a research scientist and postdoctoral researcher at AdventHealth, a role she has held since 2021. Prior to this, she held several notable positions at the University of Central Florida. She served as an assistant scholar and scientist from 2016 to 2021, a postdoctoral associate from 2014 to 2016, a research assistant from 2008 to 2013, and a graduate teaching assistant from 2007 to 2008. Her earlier roles include working as a biochemist in nuclear medicine at INVAP from 1987 to 1990 and as a researcher and teaching assistant at the University of Buenos Aires from 1983 to 1987. Throughout her career, she has contributed to various articles and papers published in professional journals. 

Laying a solid educational foundation, Dr. Petrilli began her academic journey at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina, where she earned a master’s degree in biochemistry in 1987. She continued her studies at the University of Central Florida, obtaining a master’s degree in biomolecular sciences in 2010 and a PhD in biomedical sciences in 2013. She has also earned various certifications, including a certification in biomedical research, basic, from the CITI Program in 2024 and a certification in the CITI Good Clinical Practice Course, also from the CITI Program in 2024. Additionally, she completed a certification in interpersonal communication from LinkedIn in 2021 and a certification in project management foundations from Lynda.com in 2017. In light of her impressive undertakings, she was honored with the Graduate Student Award for Outstanding Dissertation from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in 2014 and the Young Investigator Award by the Children’s Tumor Foundation in 2011. 

Reflecting on her career, Dr. Petrilli takes great pride in her contributions to the study of neurofibromatosis type 2, a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of noncancerous tumors in the nervous system. She has tested multiple potential candidates for the treatment of vestibular granuloma, an inflammatory condition affecting the balance and hearing nerves, and created human cell lines for drug discovery for the disease. She attributes her success to her resilience, her love of science, and the unwavering support of her parents. In the coming years, she aims to fully establish the cellular vesicle research and core service at AdventHealth to identify biomarkers for the diagnosis and progression of diabetes.
