Title: Clinical Team Manager
Company: Pharmaceutical Product Development, Thermo Fisher Scientific
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana, United States

Janet Evette Williams, clinical team manager at Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD), a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biology and clinical research.

With nearly a decade and a half of experience, Ms. Williams has built a successful career in biology and clinical research. She currently excels as a clinical team manager at PPD, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, a role she has held since 2023. For the past two years, she has primarily worked as a clinical research associate on the COVID-19 vaccine, Moderna. Her responsibilities included cleaning and analyzing data, as well as presenting the vaccine to the Food and Drug Administration for approval. As a manager, she oversees 17 clinical research associates, meeting with them weekly, assigning metrics, and ensuring they remain on task. Her team operates on various sites worldwide, and she is responsible for ensuring patient safety, the success of the trial, and adherence to contractual agreements. Additionally, she is involved in oversight, reporting, and communication. In light of her impressive undertakings, she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from President Joe Biden in 2023, received an honorary doctorate, was named a top five scholarship finalist, and was listed on the Grammy nomination ballot in the song category.

Reflecting on her path, Ms. Williams laid a solid educational foundation by earning a Bachelor of Science in research and epidemiology from Texas A&M University in 2008. Her passion for the field was sparked at the age of nine, driven by a deeply personal experience. Her nine-year-old cousin passed away from cancer, and witnessing the debilitating effects of the disease daily inspired her commitment to cancer research. Although she spent many years immersed in cancer research, her focus shifted to the COVID-19 vaccine when the pandemic required urgent attention. This experience taught her the importance of collaboration, learning to ask questions and seek help from colleagues rather than solely relying on her own research efforts, a shift that greatly improved her efficiency. In the coming years, she aspires to advance to a director position. In advising aspiring professionals, she encourages those passionate about helping humanity through research, particularly those who wish to contribute to groundbreaking studies without becoming a physician, to consider this field. It offers the opportunity to work on the cutting edge of medical research and potentially find cures for chronic illnesses.
