J.E. “Jack” Zimmerman, PG, CPG, environmental advisor at Precision Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in environmental services.

With over three decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Zimmerman has built a successful career in environmental services, specializing in oil field services. He currently excels as an environmental advisor at Precision Group, formerly Precision NDT LLC, a role he has held since 2023. Precision Group is a leading provider of complete asset inspection, integrity, engineering, safety and environmental services. Prior to this, he was a senior geologist and project manager at American Safety Services Inc. from 2015 to 2023. His experience also includes positions as a geologist at eTech Environmental & Safety Solutions Inc. in 2015, project manager and geologist at Terracon from 2014 to 2015, senior geologist at Tetra Tech from 2006 to 2012, geologist at Science Applications International Corporation Inc. from 2003 to 2005, and senior project leader at Weston Solutions Inc. in Texas in 2002.

Mr. Zimmerman laid a strong educational foundation, earning an associate of science in business administration and a Bachelor of Science in both geology and geography from PennWest Clarion, completed in 1980 and 1989, respectively. He went on to earn a Master of Arts in environmental geography from Kansas State University in 1991 and holds the designation of certified professional geologist. Additionally, he is a member of Gamma Theta Upsilon and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, where he continues to dedicate his time. Reflecting on his path, his lifelong passion for science was sparked in middle school, greatly influenced by his experiences in the Boy Scouts. During summer camps, he was inspired by the growing environmental movement of the 1970s, fueling his curiosity in science and leading him to pursue it further in college. Recognizing science as a blend of mathematics and physics that helps explain the world, he dedicated himself to geology, ultimately achieving licensure to practice in multiple states.

Mr. Zimmerman attributes his success to the guidance of individuals he admired while growing up, who instilled in him a deep respect for the value of education. In the coming years, he plans to retire and enjoy his passion for golf, though he hopes to stay engaged in his current role, where his expertise and contributions are valued by his company. He foresees a move to San Antonio this summer to complete his work there before officially retiring. With retirement, he looks forward to traveling extensively, particularly with the goal of visiting all continents, including Antarctica. Additionally, he plans to marry his fiancée, to whom he proposed last December, and embark on this next chapter of life together.

In advising future professionals, Mr. Zimmerman recalls a valuable piece of advice from his youth: you can choose to be a “have” or a “have-not.” Those who choose the “have-not” path often end up complaining, which can alienate others. However, by choosing to be a “have,” you can pursue education, start from the bottom, and work your way up. He stresses the importance of persistence, building credentials, and remaining open to advice from those who have achieved success. He considers himself a “have” who benefited from mentorship by remarkable individuals with a team-oriented mindset. He emphasizes the value of collaboration, advising that when questions arise, team members should share knowledge and help each other find solutions, fostering both growth and learning.
