In addition to her current role, she is an accomplished author, contributing to the field with works like “Programming Games as Learning Tools: Using Empathic Design Principles for Engaging Experiences,” published in IEEE CTSoc Gaming, Entertainment, and Media in 2024, and “Applying Empathic Design to mGBL: Research Opportunities,” for the USA Association for Computing Machinery ACM. Dr. Maxim is actively involved in several organizations, including the Association for Computing Machinery, the Special Interest Groups on Computer-Human Interaction and Artificial Intelligence, the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, the Association for Uncertainty in Artificial Intelligence, and the User Experience Professionals Association. She volunteers with Sound Foundations and mentors in human-computer interaction and user experience research. Her deep interest in understanding human behavior and cognitive processes in relation to technology fuels her dedication to research. She is also passionate about empathic design, prioritizing integrating user feedback into product development to ensure impactful, user-centered solutions. Her experience spans UX design, enterprise software, and AI tools for a range of users, from developers to business professionals to consumers.

Dr. Maxim is also passionate about reaching new, diverse user groups and recently conducted a study on autistic dolls equipped with AI technology developed by UiPath, reflecting her belief in the power of digital tools to improve lives. She takes pride in developing an empathic design framework that supports the creation of digital technologies across fields, especially in academia, where traditional methods may not engage newer generations effectively. Her work includes designing, building, and developing educational games tailored for all learners, with a particular focus on individuals with neurodiverse needs. Looking ahead, Dr. Maxim aims to patent a unique framework that evaluates users’ overall experience by integrating objective, subjective, and cognitive factors. She also plans to expand her contributions to community support by developing serious game solutions and e-health applications powered by AI, focusing on social-emotional learning and mental support for conditions such as anxiety, stress, and clinical disorders. Additionally, she intends to introduce advanced equipment like transcranial magnetic stimulation, offering an alternative to medication for managing depression and other personality disorders.
