James Morgan Harris, PhD, MSAT Conjugation Lead at Pfizer Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Pharmaceuticals.
A leader in pharmaceuticals for nearly two decades, Dr. Harris has been affiliated with Pfizer Inc. in Sanford, North Carolina, since 2015, beginning as a senior scientist of process development. Since 2019, he has served as a principal scientist. Since stepping into this role, he was instrumental in developing the COVID-19 vaccine as part of the team overseeing the manufacturing of bioprocesses. Dr. Harris’s contributions involved developing the process steps using computational fluid dynamic workstations. Besides his senior scientist role, he has served as the editor-in-chief of Pfizer’s B&CN Journal since 2019 and as the manufacturing science and technology conjugation lead since 2022.
Returning to Pfizer Inc. after briefly working for Novartis in Holly Springs, North Carolina, Dr. Harris was a process analyst from 2013 to 2014 and a development engineer in 2014. He notably spent a year as a process engineer at Pfizer Inc. from 2009 to 2010. Throughout his career, Dr. Harris attributes his success at both organizations to his contributions to biochemical engineering, protein engineering, and biophysics research and his tenure devoted to the process and product development of vaccines and medical device technologies. As he prepares for the future of his career, Dr. Harris’s goals include a leadership position with Pfizer Inc. as a director and even vice president or higher within the next few years.
Highly educated, Dr. Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 2002 and a Doctor of Philosophy in chemical and biomolecular engineering from North Carolina State University in 2009. He also completed postdoctoral work in biomedical and medical engineering at Duke University in 2013. Besides his education, Dr. Harris remains at the forefront of his industry as a member of the American Chemical Society. He also enjoys engaging in civic initiatives, including serving as a volunteer tutor for Grade Power Learning, teaching for the Green Awaking Program for Communities in Schools of North Carolina, and serving as a club pack master for the Boy Scouts of America. Dr. Harris credits his professional and personal accomplishments to his faith and the unwavering support of his family.
