Dr. Douglas Everett Wyatt Jr., chief advisory scientist at Amentum Services Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in research and development.

With over four decades of experience, Dr. Wyatt has built a distinguished career in research and development, specializing in planetary sciences and large-scale government research programs. He currently serves as the program manager for NASA research centers at Amentum Services Inc., a role he has held since 2017. His experience also includes over 20 years as chief advisory scientist and program manager at the United States Department of Energy National Laboratories. He has also held academic roles, including part-time lecturer and instructor at Augusta University from 2017 to 2019, adjunct faculty at Clemson University from 2004 to 2017, and college lecturer at Augusta University from 2016 to 2019. Additionally, he served as program manager for research, technology, and innovation in energy and earth sciences at AECOM from 2015 to 2017, chief technical adviser at Halliburton from 2014 to 2015, and director of science research at URS Corporation from 2009 to 2014.

Dr. Wyatt also served as an adjunct research professor and lecturer at the University of South Carolina Aiken from 1998 to 2013, senior consulting engineer at URS Corporation from 2005 to 2009, and manager of geosciences research at EG&G Technical Services from 2002 to 2005. He was an adjunct faculty member at West Virginia University from 2003 to 2005, senior fellow scientist at Westinghouse Savannah River Company from 1990 to 2002, and geologist at Eastern Natural Gas Corp. from 1985 to 1990 and TransAtlantic from 1982 to 1985. He also dedicates his time as a volunteer with the Supreme Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem, Autonomous Grand Priory of the United States, a role he has held since 2019. He has served as a mentor with American Corporate Partners since 2015 and as trustee and former council commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America-Georgia Carolina Council since 1990.  From 2011 to 2014, he was an elected commissioner and member of the soil and water conservation board for the Aiken County Soil and Water Conservation Commission.

Dr. Wyatt’s professional affiliations include chair of the international science fair committee for the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, president of the division of environmental geosciences within the energy minerals division of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and memberships in the American Geophysical Union and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. His educational background includes coursework in biology and theology at Lipscomb University in 1973, a bachelor’s degree in zoology and ecology and a Bachelor of Arts in physical geography from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, both earned in 1980, a Master of Science in geology and geophysics from Vanderbilt University in 1985, and a PhD in geological and earth sciences from the University of South Carolina in 1995.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wyatt has been recognized for his innovative contributions, holding nine U.S. patents and earning numerous accolades, including the Developer of New Technologies designation with NASA; the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Division of Environmental Geosciences Past President’s Award in 2015; the Meritorious Contribution Award from AAPG in 2014; the Councilor Appreciation Award from AAPG in 2014; the Secretary of Energy Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Energy in 2011; and the Westinghouse Pyramid Award from Westinghouse Electric Corporation in 1997. He attributes his success to being surrounded by successful, curious, and like-minded individuals who share his interest in exploration and the joy of discovery. Looking to the future, he will soon take on the role of program manager for contractor support research at the Ames Research Center and is currently working on two historical books.
