Julien Pestourie, director of the EDF U.S. Innovation Lab, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering.

Mr. Pestourie has been active in his industry for over two decades as an experienced engineer and educator. Since 2021, he has been affiliated with EDF U.S. Innovation Lab in Palo Alto, California, as the lab’s director. As an expert in engineering, utility and energy leadership, he is responsible for a team of 20 skilled employees, where he is tasked with guiding their efforts and ensuring they remain on track. Mr. Pestourie also frequently attends meetings as part of a broader team based in Paris. The Lab partners with academic, industrial, financial and start-up stakeholders across North and South America and has nine research and development laboratories worldwide.

Affiliated with the EDF U.S. Innovation Lab since 2001, Mr. Pestourie rose from becoming a smart grid risk and assessment management research engineer to earning four other progressive roles before becoming the director. He also garnered success in academia, lecturing at École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers from 2004 to 2018 and the Université Paris 13 during that same time frame. Moreover, Mr. Pestourie has been active on various committees since 2021, including the EPRI research advisory committee and the advisory committee for Carnegie Mellon University’s Electricity Industry Center since 2021.

In preparation for his future, Mr. Pestourie received a Master of Science in electrical engineering from Centrale Mediterranee in 2001 and completed the executive management program at HEC Paris in 2013. He has remained active in his industry through various professional memberships, most notably recognized as a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Additionally, Mr. Pestourie is lauded for his writing contributions to various professional publications and as the co-author of “Five Good Reasons to Abandon Synchronous Time Control” in 2009. His future goals include promoting talented individuals, particularly women, to pursue the energy sector while growing and developing the economy for the future of society.
