After a remarkable career in the wire and cable industry, he has managed his own company as a reputable consultant and owner of Lloyd Askew Consulting in Ludlow, Massachusetts, since 2020. He has also been a sales representative for a PCB panel optimization solutions provider, Panelright, since 2020, where Mr. Askew continues demonstrating his expertise in the field.

Mr. Askew’s extensive background in manufacturing wire and cable products has encompassed various critical aspects such as product design, manufacturing and quality assurance systems for cable testing. Having begun his career focused on plastic extrusion, he specialized in producing rigid plastic pipes. Mr. Askew then pivoted into the electrical wiring cable sector, where he continued to excel by identifying substantial parallels in manufacturing principles from plastics applicable to wire and cable production. His initial involvement with telephone cables set the tone for his future success and progression in the industry.

Mr. Askew worked for several notable organizations throughout his career, beginning with Prestolite, Rockbestos, Hendrix Wire & Cable and then with Reynolds Metals Company. Over the years, he landed high-level positions with companies like Kalas Manufacturing as the director of engineering, Rome Cable as the engineering manager and senior process and methods engineer, and Judd Wire Inc. as an engineering manager and research and development manager. Before transitioning into consulting, Mr. Askew’s most recent role was with Lake Cable, beginning as a quality manager in 2012 and then as a quality and technical manager from 2013 to 2020.

In preparation for his future, Mr. Askew studied at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, earning a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering in 1974. In addition to his degree, he received numerous credentials, adding to his expertise. He became certified in polymer engineering by the University of Massachusetts, in quality engineering by Clackamas Community College, in AutoCAD by Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, and in systems engineering by Pennsylvania State University at Great Valley.

As part of his continued success, Mr. Askew is a prominent member of several professional organizations, such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Society for Quality, SAE International, and The Wire Association International Inc.

Mr. Askew’s free time includes volunteering with civic organizations. He has volunteered with Freemasonry and Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity Inc. in various capacities, including charitable events and initiatives supporting worthy causes.

As a seasoned industry leader, Mr. Askew has spoken publicly before the International Wire & Cable and Connectivity Symposium. He has also contributed his expertise by writing an article in his field. Among other noteworthy accomplishments, Mr. Askew was the technical leader of the team that successfully extruded three red stripes on underground power cable as the result of previous legal action that stemmed from mistaken power cables. Invited to the challenge alongside several competitors, they developed a new tooling design that resolved the issue and became the basis for underground power cable jackets to this day.

As he prepares for the future, Mr. Askew is pleased with his many accomplishments, and looking forward to staying active in the industry. Reflecting on his professional choices, particularly his college education, Mr. Askew deeply appreciates his father, who helped guide and support his decisions. His education has been pivotal to his success as a prominent leader, respected and sought-after for his expertise.
