Title: Project Leader
Company: Evotec
Location: Princeton, New Jersey, United States
Dr. Mark Adrian Brooks, Project Leader at Evotec, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the Sciences.
Dr. Brooks, a seasoned researcher and scientist, has been a principal scientist and project leader at Evotec since 2015 and 2017, respectively. Beginning his career with the biotechnology research organization in 2009 as a senior scientist in Oxfordshire, U.K., he advanced to become a principal scientist I in and principal scientist. In his current work, Dr. Brooks leads a team of crystallographers consisting of six individuals who report directly to him. Their work involves producing, purifying, and crystallizing proteins and creating complex mixtures with antibodies that will bind to these proteins. This process helps illustrate how drug molecules interact with the proteins, aiding in drug discovery and development and improving pharmaceuticals for patients.
Highly educated to support his role, Dr. Brooks studied at the University of Leeds in the U.K., where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology in 1992 and a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry and molecular biology with a focus on structure and function studies of a delayed rectifier potassium channel in 1996. He also holds a Lean Six Sigma green belt certification. Following his education, Dr. Brooks completed postdoctoral research at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland from 1996 to 1999, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory between 2000 and 2004 and the University of Paris XI from 2005 to 2009.
To remain at the forefront of his profession, Dr. Brooks is an active member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. As a result of his research, he has contributed over a dozen publications on crystallography in professional publications such as the Journal of Structural Biology and the Journal of Medical Chemistry. Reflecting on his career success, Dr. Brooks reflects on his extensive training, teamwork and collaboration with colleagues and clients, and his determination to garner results. He also recalls a time in his childhood when he watched a BBC documentary about solving the structures of DNA, which ultimately ignited his desire to become a crystallographer.
