Joanne A. Starkey, vice president of quality at Certified Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biotechnology research.
Ms. Starkey is a biotechnology research professional whose career spans over two decades. Since 2022, she has served as the vice president of quality at Certified Group. Having recently merged with Food Safety Net Services, Certified Group comprises a network of laboratories that provide comprehensive laboratory testing and regulatory consulting services across North America.
In addition to her role as a vice president, Ms. Starkey has served as a regulatory, quality and operations systems consultant at Trail Stone Consulting LLC since 2018, working with companies like Johnson & Johnson as a regulatory process and CAPA coordinator, Terumo BCT as a project lead and regulatory process consultant, and currently the Marijuana and Hemp Testing Laboratory as a DEA compliance consultant since 2022.
Ms. Starkey began her career at LABS Inc. as an infectious disease department team lead and research and development technologist in 2003. She later joined VRL Eurofins Laboratories, Eurofins USA, as a quality assurance manager, remaining in her position from 2010 to 2017. She then spent another year as the company’s acting director. From 2019 to 2021, Ms. Starkey excelled as the vice president of operations at Infinity Laboratories.
Ms. Starkey graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Northern Colorado in 2003. Highly qualified in her field, she received an America Society for Quality designation as a certified manager of quality and organizational excellence, and several others through LinkedIn.
Dedicated to her profession, Ms. Starkey is a professional member of the American Society for Quality. Her engagement with the organization allows her to network with like-minded individuals and remain at the forefront of her industry. Ms. Starkey is also active in her community as a donor to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Empowers Africa. Furthermore, since 1996, she has been affiliated with the trail crew maintenance team with the Colorado Trail Foundation.
As a researcher in her field, Ms. Starkey has co-authored several scholarly journal articles on topics related to her work. Among her most notable achievements, she was instrumental in developing and launching a new application in 2013, resulting in a Team Award from VRL Eurofin Laboratories in 2013. This application was a comprehensive initiative that was developed from the ground up and began offering human cell and tissue product testing services to clients in the United States and other countries.
Ms. Starkey’s expertise in operational excellence, laboratory quality management, and successfully managing teams, processes and strategic programs have been instrumental to her success and ability to drive continuous quality improvement in the blood, tissue, hospital, pharmaceutical and medical device testing and manufacturing industries. She has also consistently understood and applied relevant policies, procedures, regulations and legislation. Ms. Starkey credits her tenacity and determination, as well as the support of her children and family, to her success today.
In the coming years, Ms. Starkey envisions continuous growth in her professional endeavors. She hopes to develop her expertise further while assisting companies in achieving their objectives. Ultimately, her goal is to acquire a chief compliance officer role for an organization where she can contribute to the field on a deeper level.
