Ms. Guido has established a distinguished career in biospecimen management, currently serving as the biorepository manager at F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. With over 30 years of professional experience, she has spent over a decade managing staff and overseeing requests for specific samples both internally and externally. Ms. Guido’s expertise in biospecimen management during her tenure has become widely recognized.
Having begun her career as a research assistant at Athena Neurosciences in 1992, Ms. Guido served in this capacity until 1996. During this time, she honed her skills in research methodologies and developed a keen interest in pathology. The company specializes in developing medical products to treat neurological diseases and disorders like Alzheimer’s, epilepsy and multiple sclerosis.
Ms. Guido transitioned to Elan Pharmaceuticals, Perrigo Company plc, where she served as a research associate from 1996 to 1999. Her dedication and meticulous approach to data collection and analysis were instrumental in her promotion to staff research associate, a role she held until 2004. In recognition of her contributions, Ms. Guido was promoted again to senior research associate at Elan Pharmaceuticals between 2004 and 2006. Her work during this period was pivotal in advancing Alzheimer’s research, particularly her involvement in developing the first Alzheimer’s vaccine. Ms. Guido’s innovative application of four stains to tissue samples significantly advanced understanding of Alzheimer’s pathology.
From 2006 to 2011, Ms. Guido served as an associate manager of research at Elan Pharmaceuticals. Subsequently, she took on a similar role at Janssen Alzheimer Immunotherapy Research and Development between 2009 and 2012.
Ms. Guido’s academic background laid a strong foundation for her career achievements. She earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in avian science from the University of California, Davis. Ms. Guido attributes her success to her relentless curiosity, desire to understand why things happen, and patience. Driven by the desire to uncover the reasons behind her observations, pathology, she notes, requires a slower, more meticulous data collection and analysis process, unlike other areas of research and development that often yield quicker results. Ms. Guido’s persistence and attention to detail, especially when working with mouse models, have allowed her to identify and verify significant findings. This dedication to accuracy and understanding was key to her achievements.
Looking ahead, Ms. Guido is considering a shift toward writing and publishing as part of her future endeavors. She also plans to continue her philanthropic efforts by supporting middle school science students in setting up laboratory equipment and providing necessary supplies, particularly in impoverished areas.
