Dr. Hagiopol’s illustrious career spans over five decades, marked by significant contributions to chemical engineering and polymer science. Since 2018, he has served as an independent consultant, offering his expertise to companies seeking advice in applied chemistry and assisting patent lawyers in disputes and authorship matters. Dr. Hagiopol’s role as a consultant is the culmination of a career dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and innovation.
Before pivoting into his entrepreneurial role, Dr. Hagiopol was affiliated with Georgia-Pacific Chemicals LLC for nearly two decades, beginning as a scientist from 2000 to 2013 and then as a research fellow until 2017. His tenure at Georgia-Pacific was preceded by a role as a visiting scientist at Lehigh University between 1998 and 2000. Earlier in his career, Dr. Hagiopol excelled as a scientist at the National Institute for Research & Development in Chemistry and Petrochemistry, Center for Plastic Materials, from 1977 to 1998, and in the same capacity at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry P. Poni between 1972 and 1977. He began his professional journey as a chemical engineer at Petrochim Institute Ploiesti in 1969.
Dr. Hagiopol’s academic foundation is rooted in his education at Universitatea Politehnica Bucuresti in Romania, where he earned a Master of Science in chemical engineering in 1969 and later a PhD in macromolecular chemistry in 1983. These academic achievements have been instrumental in his ability to contribute significantly to the field through both research and practical applications.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hagiopol has been prolific in his scholarly contributions. He has significantly contributed to encyclopedias and reference modules, including a chapter on copolymers for Elsevier’s “Encyclopedia of Condensed Matter Physics” published in 2005. He has consistently published a book approximately every 10 years, including “Copolymerization – Towards a Systematic Approach” via Kluwer-Springer in 1999, “Chemistry of Modern Papermaking” via CRC Press in 2011, and “Natural Polyphenols From Wood: Tannin and Lignin – An Industrial Perspective” via Elsevier in 2021.
Beyond books, Dr. Hagiopol has contributed numerous scientific articles in esteemed journals, such as the Journal of Applied Polymer Science, Colloid and Polymer Science, Makromolekulare Chimie, the Journal of Polymer Science, and the Journal of Macromolecular Science, among others. His most notable works include “Scientific Truth in a Post-Truth Era: A Review,” published in Science & Education in 2024.
Dr. Hagiopol’s dedication to his field is further exemplified as the co-inventor of 10 patents in Romania and over 45 more in the United States. His tenure in the field has advanced scientific understanding and fostered business development through technologies that create jobs and generate revenue. Dr. Hagiopol attributes much of his success to his relentless work ethic. He consistently strives for excellence throughout his career every day.
