Natalie Farris, vice president of chemistry manufacturing and controls (CMC) at Yamo Pharmaceuticals and executive CMC consultant at Naltou Pharma CMC Consulting, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pharmaceuticals.
Inspired by her father’s career as a chemist, Ms. Farris has dedicated more than 20 years to working in chemistry with a focus on the pharmaceutical field. Her professional journey started in 2002 as a quality control lab analyst for Noramco. Continuing to gain experience in quality control, Ms. Farris worked as a quality control chemist at AVI BioPharma, Chesapeake Biological Laboratory and Eisai Inc., alongside several years as a pharmaceutical analysis chemist at Shire. In 2011, she stepped into the position of associate director of CMC at Vanda Pharmaceuticals.
Ms. Farris’ tenure at Vanda Pharmaceuticals would prove noteworthy, as she helped take a major new drug treatment from early trial phases to launching into the market. She played a key part in gaining Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for Hetlioz, a medication used to treat non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder. Ms. Farris considers this one of the biggest achievements of her career. She takes great pride in knowing that her hard work has led to this new treatment aiding patients throughout the United States and around the world.
Recognized for her skills, Ms. Farris held the role of senior director of CMC at Cerecor Inc., GSK plc and Atossa Therapeutics Inc. In 2023, while still working with Atossa Therapeutics, she started taking jobs as an executive CMC consultant under her own company, Naltou Pharma CMC Consulting LLC. Since 2025, Ms. Farris has also served as the vice president of CMC at Yamo Pharmaceuticals, a company developing an innovative new therapy for autism spectrum disorder. This position is personal to her, as her 15-year-old daughter is on the autism spectrum.
Prior to setting out on her professional journey, Ms. Farris built her credentials through her academic background. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Delaware in 1999. Subsequently, Ms. Farris earned a Master of Science in geochemistry from the same institution in 2002. In addition to the fundamentals of chemistry, she has demonstrated expertise in both FDA and European Medicines Agency regulations and has experience overseeing budgets, reviewing cost proposals and other necessary skills above and beyond hard scientific knowledge.
As a commitment to her field, Ms. Farris has been active with several industry-related organizations. She has maintained membership in the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists since 2023 and the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society since 2024. In 2025, Ms. Farris established the Maryland Chapter of the Bio Pharma Networking Group. She credits her success to her drive and desire to keep learning, as well as the mentorship provided by Dr. Deepak Phadke while she worked with him at Vanda Pharmaceuticals.
Outside of her career, Ms. Farris is a devoted mother to one daughter. In her free time, she enjoys gardening and reading books. Looking ahead, Ms. Farris is eager to continue pushing forward Yamo Pharmaceuticals’ work in autism drug treatments. She also hopes to spend more time providing mentorship to the next generation of chemists, making them aware of the many professional growth options available to them.
