Walter James McConathy, PhD, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biochemistry.

A fellow of the Council on Arteriosclerosis for the American Heart Association, Dr. McConathy has been successful in his career as a biochemist over the last 50 years due to perseverance, discipline and his ongoing curiosity in science and academics. He is a published author of more than 250 articles and abstracts to professional publications where he has shared his expertise in his field. From 2002 to 2014, he served as president of LipoMedics, Ltd., in Fort Worth, Texas, while also teaching as a professor for the internal medicine department at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Permian Basin, Texas. Dr. McConathy came to these opportunities after establishing a reputation of excellence and integrity in his industry. He held multiple noteworthy roles at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, including associate professor, director of the division of clinical research, adjunct associate professor for the biochemistry and molecular biology department, acting chairman of the department of biochemistry and molecular biology, and professor for the department of medicine. Additionally, Dr. McConathy was impactful at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) as an associate member of the lipoprotein and atherosclerosis research program, assistant member of the lipoprotein laboratory, staff scientist, predoctoral fellow for the cardiovascular section and postdoctoral fellow for the lipoprotein laboratory.

Dr. McConathy’s success is supported by his education, which includes a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Oklahoma. Committed to his professional development, he has been involved with prominent industry organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Federation for Clinical Research and Sigma Xi.  As he looks to the future, Dr. McConathy intends to work toward continued success in his field by taking on new opportunities to share his expertise and his many years’ experience.
