Harrell L. Walker, PhD, a retired professor at Louisiana Tech University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists and Educators for dedication, achievements and leadership in botany.
With 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Walker has been retired since 2010, having been a botany professor at Louisiana Tech University since 1987. Prior to obtaining this role, he was a research station director with the Mycogen Corporation from 1984 to 1987, and a research scientist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Agricultural Research Service from 1976 to 1984. From 1975 to 1976, he was the assistant director of the plant industry for the Alabama Department of Agriculture, where he was previously a plant pathologist from 1974 to 1975. Earlier in his career, Dr. Walker was a postdoctoral research assistant at Auburn University from 1972 to 1974 and a biological research assistant with the U.S. Army Medical Laboratory from 1970 to 1972.
Dr. Walker first pursued an education with Louisiana Tech University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1966. He then joined the University of Kentucky, completing a Master of Science in 1969. He continued his studies with the school, earning a PhD in 1970. Dr. Walker is a member of the American Phytopathological Society and the Weed Science Society of America. For his contributions to the field, he has been featured in Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
