Martha Walsh-McGehee

Martha Walsh-McGehee, Orinthologist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in wildlife conservation and research.

Always passionate about the proper treatment of birds, Ms. Walsh-McGehee completed coursework at multiple institutions before beginning her career. In 1966, she studied at the University of Missouri, going on to Baker University until 1967, and, finally, completing coursework at Marymount-Manhatten in 1982. From 1967 until 1978, Ms. Walsh-McGehee excelled as a flight attendant for TWA. In 1988, though, she began her career in science as a conservationist and the president of Island Conservation Effort. Remaining there until 2004, Ms. Walsh-McGehee contributed to numerous scientific papers throughout her career.

An active member of her industry, Ms. Walsh-McGehee maintains affiliation with the Caribbean Conservation Association, the St. Lucia Naturalists Society, and the Society of Caribbean Orinthology, among several others. From 1986 until 1992, she excelled as a partner in conservation with the World Wildlife Fund. Moreover, since 1987, Ms. Walsh-McGehee has worked as an associate with the World Resources Institute.

Reflecting on her accomplishments, Ms. Walsh-McGehee remembers her experiences traveling with the World Wildlife Fund as some of the many highlights of her career. She and the team travelled to Thailand and Nepal, working to monitor the Rhino population. During this trip, she got to work with many esteemed scientists, as well as see all kinds of animals, including elephants, in their natural habitats, which was an amazing experience. However, Ms. Walsh-McGehee considers her work on the Saba Conservation to be her crowning career achievement. As a testament to her success, she is featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.
