David J. Lachance, Geologist at the U.S. Department of the Interior, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in geology.

Serving the U.S. Department of the Interior for 39 years between 1975 and 2014, Mr. Lachance first excelled as a geologist at the department’s office in Metairie, Louisiana, for one year before being transferred to Washington State in 1976. Remaining in Washington until 1983, he subsequently moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he completed his tenure in 2014. During his career, he became a certified petroleum geologist through the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Post-retirement, Mr. Lachance dedicates his time and expertise to academia, where he serves as a substitute teacher for kindergarten through 12th grade.

Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Hampshire from 1973 and a Master of Science from Eastern Washington University from 1978, Mr. Lachance was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1973, remaining in the armed forces until he retired as major. Notably, he served in the first Gulf War between 1990 and 1991. In his spare time, he impressively lends his creative talents to writing short stories and screenplays, having authored the book “The Plaza” in 1994 and the plays “Faces in the Raft,” “Pray for Me at Your Own Risk” and “The Gift” in 1994, 1996 and 1997, respectively. He also wrote the stage play “An End to War, An End to Peace” in 2012, which was translated into Farsi and distributed in Iran. To attest to his success, Mr. Lachance has been highlighted in the 25th and 26th editions of Who’s Who in the Midwest.
