Mr. Porter attended Edinboro University in Pennsylvania before subsequently pursuing his master’s degree at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He is likewise certified through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as an asbestos worker supervisor. He is also a certified building inspector through the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, with which he also completed the NIOSH 582 course.
In a career that has spanned both land and sea, Mr. Porter has worked as a bread delivery truck driver, a member of a natural gas exploration company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and as a musician. He is also a former service member in the U.S. Navy. Since 1989, he has excelled as a geologist with AGX, Inc. in Wexford, Pennsylvania, a position in which identifies hazardous materials such as lead, asbestos and mold. A highlight of his career was establishing a laboratory that is capable of polarized light microscopy, which requires special equipment.
In his free time, Mr. Porter plays guitar as a member of a band. He developed his love of science in his childhood, during which time HE became captivated by scientific books. He attributes his success to his mother and father, from whom he learned strong values and the importance of hard work.
