Wilfred E. Crenwelge, Branch Chief Geospatial Scientist (Retired) at the United States Department of Agriculture, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in agriculture science.
A certified soil scientist, agronomist and geospatial professional Mr. Crenwelge has excelled in a career dedicated to agriculture and the environment. Serving the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Fort Worth, Texas, he was highly regarded in his posts as chief of the Geospatial Branch for three years and as a soil scientist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service for 38 years. In addition, he worked as a soil scientist for the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District Number 1 in Lubbock, Texas from 1990 to 1994. Notably, Mr. Crenwelge was honored as Best Soil Scientist of Texas in the 2000s.
In his professional endeavors, Mr. Crenwelge conducted soil surveys throughout Texas and Alaska. Among numerous professional highlights, he was part of a nine-person team that drafted the soil map for the entire country of Saudi Arabia over the course of two years, which also became a publication. Among his other responsibilities, he was tasked with identifying soil and providing all its characteristics, as well as mapping soils on aerial imagery before publishing and choosing plots of land.
To remain abreast of his field, Mr. Crenwelge has maintained affiliation with multiple organizations, including the Cherry Spring Wildlife Association, having served as president since 2017. He also served as president of the Wildlife Association of Gillespie County in Fredericksburg, Texas for six years and as vice president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees for three years. Equally active in his local community, Mr. Crenwelge is the president of his local church.
Mr. Crenwelge attained a Bachelor of Science in agronomy from Texas A&M University in 1977. He attributes his success to the support of his colleagues and family, as well as the camaraderie and the enjoyment of doing a good job. First and foremost, what has driven him to conduct his work has always been helping people. Looking ahead, Mr. Crenwelge has plans to help his mother with her livestock and farming operations, as well continue volunteering with his local church and other organizations. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting and fishing.
