Dianna L. Shelander, retired principal geophysicist at SLB, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in geophysics.

With 40 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Shelander excelled as principal geophysicist at SLB from 1999 to 2018. She began her career as a geophysicist at Amoco Production Co. from 1981 to 1989 and at Unocal from 1990 to 1999. Before embarking on her professional path, she pursued an education at the Georgia Institute of Technology where she earned a Bachelor of Science in applied physics in 1976. She concluded her studies at Stanford University, graduating with a Master of Science in exploration geophysics in 1981. 

Ms. Shelander has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She contributed as a panelist at the 50 Year Commemoration of Title IX at the Georgia Institute of Technology. As a springboard diver, she garnered a stellar reputation on the Georgia Institute of Technology Varsity Swim Team from 1973 to 1976.

In addition to her primary vocation, Ms. Shelander remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She was a board member of the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council from 2011 to 2014. In light of her impressive undertakings, she has accrued several other accolades. She received a public and university recognition as the first woman at Georgia Tech to earn an athletic letter in 1973. She was honored with the establishment of the Dianna Shelander Scholarship to be awarded to ongoing women athletes at Georgia Tech

Ms. Shelander considers one of her most significant achievements to be her discovery of a methane gas field located offshore Burma. She also worked and published peer reviewed articles on a significant project with the US Department of Energy from 2010 to 2015, developing methods to estimate the quantity of gas hydrate, a frozen form of methane, using surface-acquired seismic data. In the immediate future, she will continue to help young professionals move forward in their careers and support family and friends in their endeavors.
