It uses cutting-edge technology that also eliminates the need for animal testing or animal-derived products. In this role, Dr. Maouyo oversees all operations and strategic initiatives of the company.

Prior to this position, Dr. Maouyo held an impressive tenure as a senior scientist and manager of research and technology at Lonza Pharma & Biotech from 2007 to 2017. As the senior scientist, he spearheaded the identification and evaluation of emerging bio-detection technologies for industrial applications in biopharmaceutical quality control. His role extended to providing strategic recommendations for potential co-development, licensing or acquisitions. He also crafted performance metrics for reliability studies of selected bio-detection technologies and assessed competing systems and assays for accuracy and robustness.

Dr. Maouyo also provided expert guidance on statistical experiment design and data analysis while contributing to proposal writing and project review processes. He also directed projects focused on designing experiments for rapid microbial detection methods and safety assays for screening raw materials. His expertise encompassed endotoxin and non-LPS pyrogen testing, mycoplasma testing, and sterility testing, adhering to compendial methods outlined in the USP and European Pharmacopeia.

Furthermore, Dr. Maouyo played a pivotal role in talent acquisition, making final decisions on hiring entry-level and mid-level scientists. He also conducted training sessions for research associates in advanced detection techniques for bacterial and fungal contamination

Prior to this, he served as a senior research scientist at the University of Maryland School of Medicine from 2005 to 2007 and as an assistant professor at the same institution from 2001 to 2005. In his role as a senior research scientist, he provided consulting expertise in bioimaging and gene expression analysis, including on-site training in quantitative PCR and advanced molecular and cell biology methods. He also collaborated on cancer research projects and facilitated the development of new research initiatives, particularly in breast and prostate cancer. Additionally, he mentored scientists and designed statistical approaches for data analysis.

In his role as assistant professor, Dr. Maouyo continued his impactful contributions, providing training in quantitative PCR and advanced molecular techniques, collaborating on cancer research projects, and fostering new research initiatives. Notably, he initiated and led research projects, managed a cellular and molecular biology laboratory, and secured funding for research endeavors. His dedication extended to teaching graduate courses in functional genomics and experimental data analysis.

Dr. Maouyo began his career as a research associate at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine from 2000 to 2001 and completed postdoctoral fellowships in cell physiology and molecular biology from 1995 to 2000 and molecular microbiology, factors of virulence, at Universite de Montreal from 1994 to 1995.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Maouyo pursued an education at the University of Sherbrooke, earning a PhD in biology, animal physiology in 1994, preceded by a master’s degree in biology in 1991, and a bachelor’s degree in natural science from Togo  in 1984.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Maouyo has been an associate faculty advisor at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions Christian Fellowship from 1996 to 2001 and a member of the Parenteral Drug Association since 2012. He was also a past member of the Knowledge Foundation and served as president of the Johns Hopkins Postdoctoral Association.

Dr. Maouyo attributes his success to his commitment to helping companies innovate and make a positive impact on people’s lives. Looking ahead, he aims to address industry challenges and continue advocating for the adoption of relevant tools in biopharmaceutical research. For aspiring professionals, he advises maintaining a forward-thinking approach and staying abreast of industry advancements.
