Christopher J. Martin, hydrogeologist IV at Washington State Department of Ecology, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in environmental services.

With over a decade of experience to his credit, Mr. Martin has established a successful career in environmental services. He currently excels as a level five hydrologist at the Washington State Department of Ecology, a position he has held since 2012. In this role, he serves as the regional hydrogeologist for the water quality program in the northwest region, actively contributing to the recent reorganization of his section and focusing on enhancing the program’s effectiveness and efficiency. His experience also includes serving as a consultant and working with a contractor for seven years each, a position with an organization in New Jersey that specialized in drilling large-capacity municipal and industrial wells, and as a hydrogeologist with Westinghouse Idaho Nuclear and with Argonne National Laboratory. Additionally, dedicates his time as a member of the local chapter of the International Plastic Model Society, a former member of the National Groundwater Association, and an active supporter of the Groundwater Foundation. In light of his impressive undertakings, he was recognized with the pacesetter award at Argonne National Laboratory.

Laying a solid educational foundation, Mr. Martin earned a Bachelor of Science in geology from Stockton University in 1981 and a Master of Science in hydrogeology from the University of Idaho in 1997. He also became a licensed hydrogeologist in 2011 through the Washington Department of Licensing. Reflecting on his path, he has made several significant contributions to the industry, including drafting a state waste discharge permit for a local slaughterhouse. This ongoing project addresses critical wastewater management challenges and plays a key role in safeguarding against groundwater contamination. He attributes his success to the positive work environments and support he has experienced throughout his career. As he looks toward retirement in the coming years, he reflects on the enjoyment his work has brought him and is considering how best to transition into a new phase of life.
