Andrew W. Womack, PhD, director of clinical supply chain at Gilead Sciences, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
Dr. Womack, an esteemed director of clinical supply chain at Gilead Sciences, began his career with the biotechnology research company in 2023 as a senior clinical supply chain manager, managing clinical trial operations, supply chain, and procurement for the medical device industry. As such, he supports its mission of pioneering virology medicines, specializing in pain management, infectious disease and oncology. Among a myriad of responsibilities, Dr. Womack meets with stakeholders daily, liaises between legal finance and the stakeholders, and establishes relationships with suppliers regarding pricing and shipping rates.
A career that began in Switzerland, Dr. Womack was a contractor at Novartis AG. He then joined the United States Department of Veteran Affairs in 2014 as the deputy chief of staff of research and development. Subsequently, he joined Princeton University as a principal investigator in 2016, where he also taught courses in neuroscience, health psychology, and psychology on campus between 2016 and 2017. Additionally, Dr. Womack garnered significant experience at Alcon, a sister company of Novartis AG and a global leader in eye care based in Geneva, in various positions. Working his way up to clinical and post-market studies manager of research and development procurement, he was later named a senior procurement manager. Dr. Womack’s tenure at Alcon allowed him to excel in procurement, manage legal contracts and negotiate with suppliers.
Highly educated, Dr. Womack achieved four bachelor’s degrees from the University of Oklahoma, a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, and both a Doctor of Philosophy in neuroscience and a Doctor of Philosophy in neurobiology and neurosciences from the University of Texas at Arlington. He also received several credentials through LinkedIn and completed the Virtual Pathways to Leadership® Course 4 by Verus Global. Dr. Womack’s extensive educational background was foundational to his career accomplishments, including discovering NMDA and calcium receptors as key to drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier, publishing multiple publications based on his research, and receiving numerous accolades from his clinical teams and Alcon. Besides his career endeavors, he enjoys giving back to the community as a mentor for The Trevor Project and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
