Daniel Tom-Aba, Senior Informatic Analyst at Emory University and the Public Health Informatics Institute, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Health Care.

Dr. Tom-Aba, a leader in the health care sector, has been splitting his time between Emory University and the Public Health Informatics Institute, both in Atlanta, since 2024 as a senior informatics analyst. Among many responsibilities, he leads the development and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI)-driven digital health products, such as Registry Capture AI and EpiDetectAI, to enhance public health surveillance and outbreak response. He also assesses public health program readiness for electronic data exchange and interoperability improvements, coordinates multidisciplinary teams to design, deploy and optimize digital solutions for data modernization and disease monitoring, and develops frameworks for data-driven decision-making and resource allocation in health care systems. Earlier, Dr. Tom-Aba held several other significant roles, including in Nigeria and Germany, before going to the U.S. when he joined The Task Force for Global Health in Atlanta as a senior technical advisor from 2019 to 2020.

Possessing a rich educational background, Dr. Tom-Aba received a Bachelor of Science in computer science and statistics from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Nigeria in 2010, a Master of Public Health in epidemiology from the University of Roehampton in London in 2018, and a Doctor of Philosophy in digital epidemiology with a focus on surveillance systems and user acceptance, magna cum laude, from Hannover Medical School in Germany in 2020. He also received certification in data science upskilling through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), project management professional certification, Scrum fundamentals certification, and generative AI for project managers certification, among other professional qualifications.

As part of his continued commitments to his field, Dr. Tom-Aba is a member of the Institute of Information Management and Scrum Alliance and is recognized as a CDC public health informatics fellow. He has also served as a volunteer trainer for public health informatics capacity-building programs and a public speaker on digital health and AI innovations in public health. Beyond these affiliations, Dr. Tom-Aba has served on various boards, including the Ultimate Peace Advocacy Initiatives as the chair of the board of trustees, and has been instrumental as the chief technology officer of Jolabdan Consulting LLC and as the director for several other organizations. Furthermore, as a researcher, he has contributed nearly two dozen international peer-reviewed articles on digital health solutions and outbreak management. Among many career accomplishments thus far, Dr. Tom-Aba developed and deployed SORMAS, an AI-driven outbreak management system used in over 20 countries. His expertise has been recognized with several accolades, including the Polio Eradication Branch Technical Excellence Award and a Young Professionals Network Speaker Award, both from the CDC.
