Dr. Stafa has established himself as a distinguished figure in dermatology and neurology, with a career spanning over two decades. Currently serving as the associate director at The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., he has been instrumental in leading a team of more than 10 scientists across Tier 1 corporate programs since 2021. In his latest role, Dr. Stafa manages budgets and resource allocations to maximize return on investment while upholding rigorous ethical guidelines and good clinical practice standards.
Since joining the organization, Dr. Stafa’s leadership has significantly contributed to the company’s strategic growth, impressing senior leadership and internal stakeholders with his ability to supervise the entire study design process from data collection to impactful reporting. He has also been responsible for facilitating seamless engagement with cross-functional teams across North America, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, ensuring that their products met the highest standards of quality and innovation. Moreover, Dr. Stafa has cultivated partnerships with key opinion leaders and contract research organizations in both academic and pharmaceutical sectors. His efforts in enhancing cross-collaboration and spearheading innovative solutions have propelled product development within the company.

Before becoming the company’s associate director, Dr. Stafa was a principal scientist from 2018 to 2021. He initially joined The Estee Lauder Companies in 2015 as a senior scientist.
Dr. Stafa’s academic journey began with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Alma Mater Studiorum, Università di Bologna, in 2005, followed by a master’s degree in molecular and industrial biotechnology on campus in 2008. He also completed a master’s degree internship in neuroscience at the Université de Bordeaux in 2008. Dr. Stafa’s pursuit of knowledge led him to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in neuroscience from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) in 2013. Further enhancing his business acumen, he obtained an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Quantic School of Business and Technology in 2021.
Besides his work-related ventures, Dr. Stafa has been actively involved with Cheeky Scientist since 2015. He has also been an associate member and a program leader in the Research & Development Society since 2015 and 2017. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Stafa is committed to giving back to the community through his volunteer work with Fondation Mère Sofia in Lausanne, Switzerland, since 2010.
Dr. Stafa’s dedication to scientific inquiry is reflected in his numerous publications, including works on skin aging, synucleinopathy prevention and Parkinson’s disease gene interactions. He has been recognized for his hard work and contributions to science and research several times, with an Early PostDoc Mobility Grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation in 2013 and a Doctoral Thesis Award from the Brain Mind Institute at EPFL in 2014. Looking ahead, Dr. Stafa aspires to establish his own business or startup that will enable him to contribute positively to society by promoting longer and healthier lives for others.
