Daniel J. Freburg, MS, director of the School of Information Technology Learning Center at Illinois State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in technology.
Mr. Freburg has established a commendable career at his alma mater, Illinois State University, where he currently serves as the director of the School of Information Technology (IT) Learning Center. In this role, he supervises graduate teaching assistants within the school of IT, overseeing their instructional activities in IT computer laboratories and tutoring services. Mr. Freburg’s expertise in Java, HTML, CSS, C++, and debugging code has been instrumental in his success.
Affiliated with Illinois State University since 2019, Mr. Freburg began as an IT help desk employee within the Mennonite College of Nursing. He later held roles such as solar car team member, Java laboratory instructor, School of IT Learning Center coordinator, and registered student organization founder and adviser for the institution’s Redbird Competitive Coding and Redbirds in Space groups.
Mr. Freburg’s academic journey is marked by significant achievements that have contributed to his professional accomplishments. He earned a bachelor’s degree in web development in 2020 and a master’s degree in computer science in 2023 from Illinois State University. His postgraduate certificate in systems analysis from Illinois State University in 2024 further solidified his technical expertise. Before these achievements, Mr. Freburg completed business administration and management coursework at Lincoln College from 2013 to 2017. These educational experiences have been pivotal in shaping his career trajectory.
Beyond his formal education, Mr. Freburg’s dedication to leadership has been evident through several professional designations, including the executive leadership certification from the National Society of Leadership and Success and several credentials through Amazon Web Services (AWS) Inc., including AWS cloud practitioner essentials and AWS Academy cloud foundations.
Mr. Freburg is a member of several professional organizations, including the Association for Computing Machinery, the Association for Information Systems and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He also maintains affiliations with the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Mr. Freburg has been actively involved in civic organizations. He has served as a committee member of the Central Illinois American Civil Liberties Union’s steering committee for over a decade. He has also contributed to the citizens’ beautification committee for the City of Bloomington, Illinois, since 2018. Mr. Freburg’s commitment to community service was previously exemplified by his involvement with the jail review committee in McLean County from 2015 to 2024.
Mr. Freburg’s research endeavors included co-authoring publications such as “Initial Steps to Create a University CubeSat Program,” which was presented at the 2024 IEEE Space Computing Conference, and “Increasing Student Success in Entry-Level Programming Courses,” also in 2024.
Throughout his career, Mr. Freburg has been recognized for his contributions to academia and research. In 2023, he was awarded the Illinois State University College of Applied Science and Technology Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award and the School of Information Technology Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award.
Mr. Freburg looks forward to the future of his career. He intends to enhance the effectiveness of the School of IT Learning Center at Illinois State University while continuing his research endeavors in space technologies. Ultimately, Mr. Freburg aspires to transition into retirement as a politician, leveraging his diverse experiences and skills for public service.
