With many years of experience to his credit, Dr. Solh has established a notable career in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning, currently excelling as a principal applied scientist at Amazon. Since 2021, he has led a team of 32 to 40 scientists focused on shopping automation, utilizing advanced technologies such as large language models and agentic systems. His leadership has been instrumental in the development of Amazon’s “Buy for Me” feature, an AI-powered tool that allows customers to purchase products from third-party retailers directly within the Amazon Shopping app. This innovation exemplifies Dr. Solh’s commitment to enhancing user experience through cutting-edge technology.

Prior to his present position, Dr. Solh worked as the head scientist of AI for camera and sensors at Amazon Lab126 from 2021 to 2024. During this time, he played a pivotal role in architecting pioneering deep-learning pipelines deployed in products such as the Fire Phone, Echo Show, Echo Look, and several Ring devices. These innovations laid the foundation for modern smart-home perception features, showcasing his ability to navigate uncharted territory in the technology landscape. Dr. Solh’s work in developing Amazon’s first in-house machine learning–based human detection system remains one of his proudest achievements.

Before joining Amazon Lab126, Dr. Solh was active as a founding team member and head of computer vision and sensor fusion at Plato Systems from 2019 to 2022. He also co-founded Fitlens, where he served as chief technical officer from 2019 to 2020. Earlier in his career, he found success as a technology lead and senior applied scientist in the computer vision and machine learning group at Amazon Lab126 from 2014 to 2019. He was previously recruited as an advanced imaging scientist at Texas Instruments from 2011 to 2014 and as a research assistant at Georgia Institute of Technology from 2007 to 2011. Dr. Solh began his career as a software developer at the National Center for Small Business Information at Florida Institute of Technology from 2005 to 2006.

In addition to his primary work with Amazon, Dr. Solh has contributed to academia as an adjunct faculty member and lecturer of deep learning at San Jose State University from 2018 to 2023. He has also provided his expertise to students at San Francisco University. 

To support his professional ambitions, Dr. Solh pursued a formal education at the American University of Beirut, from which he earned a Bachelor of Engineering in computer and communication engineering in 2005. He continued his studies with a Master of Science in electrical and computer engineering from Florida Institute of Technology in 2006. Dr. Solh ultimately concluded his academic efforts at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2011, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical and computer engineering.

Dr. Solh additionally holds membership with industry-related organizations such as the Industry DSP Technology Standing Committee of IEEE from 2015 to 2018. He was likewise appointed as vice president of the Lebanese Club at Georgia Institute of Technology from 2010 to 2011. His civic involvement includes roles such as session chair for applications of video processing at the Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers in 2012 and industrial co-chair for the IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing in 2014.

Throughout his career, Dr. Solh has been recognized with numerous accolades including the Franklin Antonio Scholarship Award from Qualcomm Technologies Inc. in 2010 and the ECE Graduate Research Assistant Excellence Award from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2012. He attributes his success to his curiosity and commitment to thinking outside conventional boundaries, often inspiring aspiring scientists through leadership by example.

Looking toward the future, Dr. Solh aims to deepen his involvement in AI by developing applications that focus on humanitarian needs, particularly in healthcare. He envisions using AI to tackle long-standing issues with the goal of significantly improving people’s lives. Additionally, he is dedicated to expanding support for children affected by crises, striving to create sustainable programs that ensure broader access for qualified students.
