Rakhee Gupte, MS, PhD, chief executive officer and president of Raadysan Biotech Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biotechnology.
For more than 30 years, Dr. Gupte has established an esteemed career in biotechnology, positioning herself at the forefront of major breakthroughs in breast cancer research. Her professional journey began in her home country of India, where she contributed as a senior scientific officer at Neopharma. While associated with Neopharma, Dr. Gupte developed a method for speeding up the detection of four types of bacteria, decreasing detection time from seven days to just three. After this initial experience, she moved to the United States to continue her studies.
In 1997, Dr. Gupte became a research assistant with New York Medical College, where she later took on the position of research associate in the department of physiology. From there, she moved on to the University of South Alabama as an assistant professor in the department of biochemistry. During her time at the University of South Alabama, Dr. Gupte contributed to lab work toward identifying behaviors of a specific protein, RFC40, in breast cancer. She aided in further research into RFC40, developing a growing expertise in this area.
Dr. Gupte’s investment in breast cancer research became even more of a priority after a powerful personal experience, where she had to undergo multiple mammograms out of concern. Inspired by these events and recognizing the need for advancements in breast cancer treatment, she founded her own company, Raadysan Biotech, where she has served as chief executive officer and president since 2012. Dr. Gupte’s work at Raadysan Biotech is focused on researching triple negative breast cancer, a form that is more aggressive and often unresponsive to many traditional treatments. The company has identified a single molecule that she believes has the ability to inhibit disease, with some animal tests achieving complete remission. Dr. Gupte is currently seeking investors to advance large-scale efficacy studies for this drug.
Prior to embarking upon her career, Dr. Gupte pursued her education, beginning with a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from the University of Mumbai (formerly the University of Bombay) in India in 1991. She obtained a Master of Science in microbiology from the same institution in 1993. Subsequently, Dr. Gupte earned a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology from New York Medical College in 2002. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in biochemistry and molecular biology at New York Medical College’s department of physiology in 2005.
Noted for her achievements in the field, Dr. Gupte has received numerous accolades, including multiple grants, scholarships and awards as an undergraduate. In 2002, she won First Prize for Presentation in the Sixth Annual Graduate Student Research Forum for New York Medical College’s department of biochemistry and molecular biology. More recently, Raadysan Biotech Inc. was named the Most Visionary Woman-Owned Biotech Company in 2024 by Global Health & Pharma News. Dr. Gupte has been awarded five U.S. patents and is a prolific writer, with more than 20 publications and a similar number of abstracts. Additionally, she has published poems on Poetry.com.
Outside of her groundbreaking work in biotechnology and breast cancer research, Dr. Gupte is also a devoted wife and a loving mother to one son, who is currently studying premed in college. As she looks to the future, she is eager to continue innovating in the field of breast cancer. Dr. Gupte is committed to working on effective new treatments for breast cancer, while also planning to extend her company’s research toward other gynecological cancers.
With the goal of becoming a recognized leader in the medical research world, Dr. Gupte plans for Raadysan Biotech to enter clinical trials for its advancements in cancer treatment in the coming years. She is also a firm believer in her personal philosophy, which is as follows:
“I believe that knowledge without humility is vanity. There is a better world above and beyond you, and therefore you should always yearn to outshine your best and crave to make it exceptional. I believe that an open mind is a magnet for boundless information and a reflection of your erudition to the outside world.”
