Morgan B. Killefer, Health Physicist for Organizational Strategy, Coaching, Learning and Development Leadership at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements and leadership in Environmental Engineering.

Ms. Killefer has established a distinguished career in radiation, biology and physics, earning recognition for her expertise and leadership. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a commitment to advancing environmental safety and public health through her work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other organizations.

Since 2018, Ms. Killefer has served as a health physicist at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In this capacity, she reviews documents, plans projects, oversees project sites and conducts compliance checks. Her responsibilities have grown significantly over time, culminating in her management of a large portion of the program.

Before joining the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Ms. Killefer was a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio, from 2015 to 2017. In this role, she supported undergraduate instruction in physics, further developing her communication and mentoring abilities while deepening her subject matter expertise. Between 2013 and 2015, Ms. Killefer also garnered experience as a physics tutor at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, where she provided academic support to students in physics courses and fostered an environment conducive to collaborative learning.

In 2014, Ms. Killefer was selected as an American Association of Physicists in Medicine fellow at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She also participated in a Research Experiences for Undergraduates program at the Pennsylvania State University in 2013, where she engaged in hands-on research that broadened her scientific perspective.

Ms. Killefer’s early research experience began as a laboratory assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2008 to 2011. She also served as a nanochallenge student researcher on campus between 2009 and 2010, contributing to innovative projects that laid the groundwork for her future pursuits.

Integral to her professional success, Ms. Killefer earned a bachelor’s degree in physics with minors in biology and mathematics from Hastings College in 2015. She then received a master’s degree in physics from the University of Toledo in 2017. Ms. Killefer’s commitment to continuous learning is further demonstrated by several professional credentials, such as leadership development certification from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a certified coach designation from Academy of Arete through worldAWAKE Inc., CP-12 certification from the U.S. Army, and completion of the advanced leadership academy through the John B. and Lillian E. Neff college of business and innovation at the University of Toledo.

Throughout her career, Ms. Killefer has been actively involved in professional organizations and honor societies that reflect her dedication to academic excellence and leadership development. She is a member of the Health Physics Society and has held various leadership roles with organizations like the Inter-Greek Council and several fraternities.

Ms. Killefer’s contributions extend beyond her primary roles through scholarly publications and presentations. Among her most notable achievements, however, was her involvement in Operation Tomodachi, part of the Tokushima clean-up in Japan. Working alongside the U.S. Navy early in her career, she contributed to critical recovery efforts following the Fukushima Dai-ichi reactor accident. This experience was instrumental in launching Ms. Killefer’s tenure with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where she advanced from learning foundational skills to becoming a technical lead.

Ms. Killefer is recognized for her specialty in gamma spectroscopy but continues to explore new techniques within radiation science, always seeking opportunities for growth as technologies evolve. She attributes her achievements to a strong support system at home. Ms. Killefer’s drive stems from a desire to combine interests in biology and physics for meaningful impact on others and the environment rather than pursuing work solely for financial gain.

Looking ahead, Ms. Killefer is committed to discovering innovative ways to enhance community well-being and safety through both professional initiatives and entrepreneurial ventures aimed at making a positive difference alongside her ongoing career responsibilities.
