Jin “Jean” Wang, PhD, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at SpaceMed-X LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements and leadership in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Dr. Wang has established herself as a leading figure in cardiovascular drug development and translational space medicine, with a career spanning more than 25 years. As the co-founder and chief executive officer of Cardix Therapeutics (now SpaceMed-X LLC) since 2016, she has been instrumental in advancing Cardix™, a 505(b)(2) cardiovascular candidate designed to enhance heart rate and cardiac output for both terrestrial patients and astronauts experiencing microgravity-induced deconditioning.

Under Dr. Wang’s leadership, SpaceMed-X LLC company has achieved significant milestones, including opening an Investigational New Drug application in 2018 and completing Phase I/IIa clinical studies in the U.S. Inspired by clinicians treating early bradycardia, and encouraged by her colleague Dr. Yakatan, Dr. Wang’s goal in co-founding the organization was to develop an affordable alternative for patients who might otherwise require pacemakers.

At SpaceMed-X, Dr. Wang leads end-to-end program management for Cardix™, overseeing strategy, planning, budgets and timelines. She directs contract research organization/contract development and manufacturing organization engagements for process development, chemistry manufacturing and controls, and clinical supply. Her responsibilities also include vendor oversight, designing preclinical and clinical studies, coordinating data review and reporting, guiding regulatory strategy and submissions, collaborating with external experts, and managing intellectual property strategy, among other tasks. Dr. Wang notably provides scientific leadership across research and development, chemistry manufacturing and controls, quality systems and translational activities.

Leveraging her previous expertise, Dr. Wang served as the vice president of quality and compliance at IriSys LLC (now Bend Bioscience) from 2009 to 2021. Earlier in her career, she was a senior scientist at Frontage Labs in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she contributed to the development and validation of analytical methods for pharmaceutical products. She also worked as a scientist at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, focusing on occupational health sciences. Dr. Wang began her professional journey as a lecturer at Sichuan Normal University, where she taught chemistry courses.

Dr. Wang’s academic background is distinguished by rigorous training in analytical chemistry. She earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, with distinction, and a Master of Science in chemistry from Sichuan University in China in 1982 and 1990, respectively. She also received a Doctor of Philosophy in analytical chemistry from McGill University in Montreal in 1995. Dr. Wang’s postgraduate training included a research fellowship at the Liver Research Center at Einstein College of Medicine (Montefiore Einstein) under the National Institutes of Health, a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Research Council through the U.S. National Academies’ National Academy of Science, and a fellowship at Health Canada under the Government of Canada.

Beyond her primary education, Dr. Wang received several certifications and completed additional training that have supported her success. Among them, she completed credentials in human subjects/institutional review board social/behavioral/biomedical modules through the CITI Program, ICH GCP certification and GMP/GLP/GDP training.

Dr. Wang’s professional memberships include the American Chemical Society. She is also dedicated to community engagement through volunteer service as a STEM outreach educator, a health education volunteer, a science fair judge, a music instructor and an advocate for science literacy among youth.

As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Wang’s scholarly output includes authorship of more than 20 peer-reviewed publications, a book chapter, and presentations at over 30 conferences. She remains an active participant in industry forums, such as the CVCT Forums, the Space Health Forums, and International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering workshops on intellectual property management and good manufacturing practices. Dr. Wang is further recognized for her frequent speaking engagements on topics like 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway and GxP compliance.

A defining highlight of Dr. Wang’s career has been guiding Cardix™ from concept to early clinical trials, translating scientific innovation into a potential therapy for patients worldwide. She has built a global intellectual property estate with multiple U.S. and international patents extending protection through approximately 2038.

Dr. Wang has received numerous accolades highlighting her success, including Best Conference Poster Award from the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance in 1999, Honorable Mention for the Alice B. Hamilton Award from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in both 1998 and 2000, and Conference Recognition from the Strategic Management Society in 2006. She attributes her achievements to sustained focus, disciplined execution, persistence in advancing patient benefit, and a commitment to making meaningful, positive contributions over time, all of which have shaped her approach to leadership, innovation and scientific advancement. Looking ahead, Dr. Wang envisions advancing SpaceMed-X LLC through pivotal studies with strategic partners, completing additional clinical milestones, positioning for regulatory submission, and advancing toward broader patient access while continuing to drive innovation.
