From 2023 to 2025, Dr. Aguiar was a senior research and innovation scientist at Syensqo Oil & Gas Solutions in The Woodlands, Texas. During her tenure, she contributed to research initiatives that advanced the company’s scientific objectives as a foremost chemical manufacturer based in Brussels, Belgium.
Between 2019 and 2022, Dr. Aguiar excelled as a senior application scientist at Locus Bio-Energy Solutions, a leader in biosurfactant solutions, in Houston, Texas. She was recruited from Clariant in The Woodlands, where she spent 2018 and 2019 as a deepwater chemist, following her role as a researcher at the Macromolecules and Colloids Laboratory in the Petroleum Industry from 2014 to 2017. Dr. Aguiar’s professional journey began with a scientific initiation at the Professor Eloisa Mano Institute of Macromolecules, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, University City, between 2007 and 2011. This foundational experience provided her with essential skills in polymer science and technology.
Dr. Aguiar’s academic background is distinguished by advanced degrees and specialized training that have underpinned her professional accomplishments. She first received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the school of chemistry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), followed by a master’s degree in upstream processes engineering on campus. Subsequently, Dr. Aguiar earned a master’s degree in polymer science and technology with expertise in polymers, asphaltenes, petroleum and resins from IMA-UFRJ and a Doctor of Philosophy in the science and technology of polymers with a focus on polymers, water treatment and petroleum from the Institute of Macromolecules Professor Eloisa Mano at UFRJ.
Dr. Aguiar’s educational pursuits have been complemented by several certifications that have broadened her expertise. She completed a specialization in leading people and teams from the University of Michigan in 2021, as well as specializations in engineering project management from Rice University and in the art of sales, mastering the selling process specialization, from Northwestern University. She also earned the fundamentals of engineering chemical certification from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying and obtained the Foundations of Digital Marketing and E-commerce Certificate from Google for Professionals in 2024. Additionally, Dr. Aguiar holds a post-graduation credential in upstream process engineering from the school of chemistry at UFRJ. Fluent in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish, she leverages her multilingual abilities to collaborate across international boundaries within scientific communities.
Dr. Aguiar is actively engaged with professional and civic initiatives. In 2026, she was selected as co-chair for two sessions at the Offshore Technology Conference, reflecting her leadership within the industry’s premier event for offshore resources development. Meanwhile, as a Museum of Fine Arts Houston supporter and member, she demonstrates an appreciation for cultural enrichment. Her volunteer activities extend to supporting animal welfare initiatives and volunteering at various hospitals.
A well-written writer, Dr. Aguiar’s scholarly work has been extensive, encompassing authorship and co-authorship of numerous publications addressing critical topics in petroleum chemistry and oilfield operations. Since 2008, she has contributed to the Journal of Applied Polymer Science, Energy & Fuels, the Brazilian Journal of Petroleum and Gas, and other notable publishers. Dr. Aguiar has also presented at numerous annual meetings and professional conferences.
Throughout her career, Dr. Aguiar has been most proud of her impact on students’ academic and professional journeys. While pursuing her doctorate in Brazil, she served as a co-adviser for several students, guiding them through the completion of their college degrees.
