Before joining Mimetic Medicines, Dr. Powell spent five years as a postdoctoral researcher at Boston Children’s Hospital from 2021 to 2025. During this time, he honed his skills in neuropharmacology and contributed to groundbreaking research in the development of non-opioid pain treatments. Before his postdoctoral work, Dr. Powell was a graduate research assistant in the pharmacology and toxicology department at the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York, between 2016 and 2021. His academic journey began as a lead science instructor at MedicalSTEP within the University at Buffalo from 2014 to 2017.
Dr. Powell’s educational background laid a strong foundation for his career achievements. Studying at the University of Buffalo, he acquired a Bachelor of Science in pharmacology and toxicology and a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry in 2016, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in pharmacology and toxicology in 2021. His academic excellence was recognized through awards such as the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Thesis Research and the Excellence Award in the Study of Chemistry. Additionally, Dr. Powell holds certifications in radiation safety from Environmental Health and Safety and animal care and use in laboratory settings from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
A member of several esteemed organizations, Dr. Powell is affiliated with the Society for Neuroscience and the International Association for the Study of Pain. He distinguishes himself through his exceptional aptitude and comprehensive knowledge of his discipline.
