Dr. Kool is an accomplished research chemist with more than 45 years of experience to his credit. Since 1999, he has found success as a senior scientist with General Electric Global Research in Niskayuna, New York. Prior to this role, he was a senior research scientist with GE Superabrasives from 1995 to 1999.
Alongside his roles in the industry, Dr. Kool has shared his expertise as an assistant professor of inorganic and organic chemistry with the Boston College Department of Chemistry from 1988 to 1995. From 1986 to 1988, he was a postdoctoral research fellow with Harvard University, and in 1984, he worked as a consultant to Sandia National Laboratories. Dr. Kool began his career as a research chemist with KMS Fusion from 1976 to 1982.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Kool graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1974. In 1986, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry and organometallic chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Dr. Kool later completed a postgraduate fellowship in chemistry at Harvard University in 1989.
Among his accomplishments, Dr. Kool has been granted more than 75 patents and has contributed to various professional publications. To keep abreast of his industry, he has maintained affiliation with the American Chemical Society and is a past member of the American Metallurgical Society. In his spare time, Dr. Kool enjoys cycling and playing billiards.
