With more than 15 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Buchman has excelled as a biologist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers since 2021, a position in which she operates at the forefront of groundbreaking environmental ecosystem restoration projects. Focusing on connecting scientific specialists for significant ecological restorations such as the Everglades Restoration Project, she also dedicates her time and attention to working on smaller, community-based projects as well as civil works projects, especially those belonging to the Florida tribes. Furthermore, Ms. Buchman must review and consider every project’s potential legal ramifications, ensuring all regulations are followed in regard to such legislation as the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Marine Mammal Act.

Ms. Buchman’s professional endeavors reflect her diverse interests and unwavering commitment to environmental conservation. She began her career as an office assistant with Resource Management Inc. from 2008 to 2012 before accepting the same position and an internship with AJH Environmental Services in 2012. She subsequently served as an intern at Birchwood Veterinary Hospital in 2013, a waitress and hostess with Jillian’s in 2013, a teaching assistant at Eckerd College from 2014 to 2015, a remodeling assistant with Buchman Homes from 2007 to 2016, and both a life support systems technician and manager at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden between 2016 and 2019. Prior to her present role, Ms. Buchman was active as a logistics assistant at Resource Management Inc. in 2019, a co-op laboratory technician at JEA from 2020 to 2021, and a graduate student assistant at Jacksonville University from 2019 to 2022. 

To support her professional ambitions, Ms. Buchman pursued an education at Eckerd College, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in marine biology with a pre-veterinary focus in 2015. She concluded her studies at Jacksonville University in 2022, graduating with both a Master of Arts in marine science and a Master of Public Policy. Ms. Buchman has been greatly inspired by her youth in Savannah, Georgia, having been exposed to marshland and her local ecosystem while embracing many outdoor pastimes over the course of her formative years.

In addition to her primary efforts, Ms. Buchman remains deeply invested in community outreach and mentorship. Notably, she has found success as a volunteer at organizations such as the Carolina Wildlife and Rehabilitation Center since 2015 and Tampa Bay Watch since 2014. She likewise contributed as a student volunteer, first mate, and radio operator for Eckerd College Search and Rescue from 2011 to 2013. Moreover, Ms. Buchman exemplified her commitment to animal welfare as a former office assistant with The Humane Society of the United States.

A proud member of the Jacksonville University community, Ms. Buchman has offered her unique perspective and wealth of expertise through speaking engagements at student orientations and student mentorship sessions. In 2022, she was recognized by the aforementioned university as the Graduate Woman of the Year. She has been further celebrated with various coins and awards from the U.S. military as a testament to her impressive work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Looking toward the future, Ms. Buchman hopes to continue thriving in the intersection of science and policy, advocating for sustainable practices in riverine ecosystems while simultaneously mentoring students, pushing the boundaries of her field so she may improve her processes, and growing her family alongside her loving husband.
