Dr. Dennis K. McBride, chief strategy officer and senior scientist at NRx Pharmaceuticals Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
With nearly a decade of experience, Dr. McBride has established a successful career in health care and pharmaceuticals. Since 2015, he has excelled as chief strategy officer and senior scientist at NRx Pharmaceuticals Inc., where he conducts and oversees clinical trials, manages the post-market phase, and incorporates digital therapeutics into the company’s portfolio. His experience also includes fellow director at the Acquisition Innovation Research Center from 2021 to 2024, chief strategy officer and vice president at SourceAmerica from 2015 to 2020, and executive director and distinguished research fellow at the National Defense University from 2014 to 2015. He was a program manager for advanced command, control, and communication technologies at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency from 2010 to 2012 and served as director at MasterLink Inc. from 2000 to 2010, while also consulting as chief scientist at Quantum Leap Inc. from 2009 to 2010. He served as executive director, professor of industrial engineering and management sciences, and professor of psychology at the University of Central Florida from 1999 to 2001. He also dedicated 20 years to the U.S. Navy as a naval aerospace experimental psychologist and flight test engineer from 1979 to 1999.
Throughout his career, he also served as a columnist for PA-Times with the American Society for Public Administration and as a professor and adjunct faculty member at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University since 2023. Concurrently, he has been a research professor with the Hume Center for National Security and Technology and an affiliated professor of practice with the Center for Public Administration and Policy at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University since 2021. He also continues to serve as president emeritus and senior fellow at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, a position he has held since 2021. Since 1993, he has been the starting catcher for Ponce de Leon Baseball, and from 2004 to 2017, he was a euphonium player with the Arlington Concert Band, where he also served as association president from 2012 to 2014.
Dr. McBride laid a strong educational foundation, earning an Associate of Arts in chemistry and music from Macon College in 1973, a Bachelor of Science in experimental psychology in 1975, a Master of Science in experimental and differential psychology in 1979, and a PhD in the same field in 1979, all from the University of Georgia. He completed advanced coursework in aerospace psychology and occupational medicine at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in 1980, a Master of Public Administration from Troy University in 1984, a Master of Science from USC Viterbi School of Engineering in 1987, and a Master of Philanthropy in management and economics from the London School of Economics in 1999. Additionally, he earned a Doctor of Public Administration from Valdosta State University in 2022 and flight test engineering credentials through the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, along with an array of certifications including corporate innovation from MIT Sloan School of Management, and business and managerial economics from Harvard Business School.
Dr. McBride is a highly accomplished human factors medical scientist, best known for his groundbreaking contributions to the design and functionality of tactical fighter jets. His work was instrumental in ensuring that women could excel in this field, addressing a range of physiological, ergonomic, and cultural challenges, including innovative solutions for issues like restroom accessibility during long flights. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has been named to the Forbes Nonprofit Council in 2018, as well as receiving the Legion of Merit and the Defense Superior Service Medal. He attributes his success to a lesson from his seventh-grade teacher, whose displayed a poster saying, “When you’re through learning, you’re through,” which became the foundation of his lifelong learning philosophy. Looking to the future, he plans to transform medicine through digital therapeutics, enabling doctors to remotely monitor patients and deliver treatments through semi-worn devices, with the potential to revolutionize care, particularly for mental health conditions like depression.
