With nearly four decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Hou has established a successful career in technology, specializing in technical development with start-ups. He currently serves as a machine learning mentor at 8iSoft — a division of Caloudi — a position he has held since 2021. 8iSoft specializes in AI-driven software solutions, focusing on cybersecurity with its YODA Vulnerability Remediation Platform and optimizing resources through our CRP Multi-cloud Resource Planning Platform to empower businesses with accessible and cost-effective solutions for efficient, secure operations and easy scalability. He has also been a data scientist, angel investor, and mentor at Vysioneer Inc. since 2019. Additionally, his experience includes chief data scientist at 8iSoft and Caloudi from 2017 to 2021, vice president of business development at Fiber Optical Communication Inc. from 2000 to 2015, vice president of business development at MRV Communications, now Adtran Networks, from 2000 to 2002, and product marketing manager at Honeywell International Inc., formerly AlliedSignal Inc., from 1984 to 1999.

Dr. Hou laid a solid educational foundation by earning an undergraduate diploma in Taiwan, followed by a PhD from Princeton University in 1988. He also holds a Six Sigma Black Belt certification. His contributions to the field include co-authoring “High-speed Light Peak Optical Link for High Energy Applications” in Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research in 2014, co-patenting the “Guiding Connector for Optical Fiber Extension” in 2011, patenting “Birefringent Optical Waveguides of Aluminum Garnet” in 1992, and co-authoring “A Two-dimensional Theory for Vibrations of Piezoelectric Crystal Plates with or without Electrodes” in 1987. Additionally, he is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a member and past president of the Chinese Institute of Engineers USA. He also dedicates his time as a volunteer mentor for the National Science Foundation.

Reflecting on his path, Dr. Hou was born and raised in Taiwan, where he did his undergraduate studies. He came to the United States in 1979 due to a scholarship from Princeton University. He earned his doctorate in 1984 and immediately worked for a company called Honeywell, formerly known as AlliedSignal, in the Advanced Technology Center. He earned his way from becoming a research staff member to a manager and then a senior manager, leaving the company with the title of senior director. At the onset of the internet in 1999 to 2000, he joined the company Fiber Optical Communication Inc., where he stayed until 2015.

Dr. Hou’s most notable achievement is becoming an expert in his industry and helping the people after him, as he came to the United States in 1979 with very little knowledge. Another standout moment was being elected president of the Chinese Institute of Engineers USA in 1992.  In light of his impressive undertakings, he was honored with the Centennial Award by the Chinese Institute of Engineers USA and earned the Technology Achievement Chairman Award from Honeywell International Inc. in 1994 and 1995. In the coming years, he aims to see more technology translate into products and help people who use them. He is also committed to sharing his knowledge and expertise with those looking to enter the industry.
