Nirmala Menikpura, PhD, Principal Consultant at Resource Futures, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in environmental protection.
With more than 18 years of extensive international experience to her credit, Dr. Menikpura has excelled as a principal consultant with Resource Futures since 2022, a position in which she conducts research on climate change, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA),sustainability and policy analysis. Prior to this appointment, she was active as a policy researcher for the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies in Japan from 2011 to 2014, a fellow of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies in London from 2014 to 2022 and a consultant for Energy Savings Trust in the UK from 2020 to 2022. She previously served as a researcher at King Mongkut’s University of Technology from 2009 to 2011. She began her career at the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, where she worked as a lecturer in agricultural engineering from 2005 to 2006 and a research associate from 2006 to 2008. Dr. Menikpura was inspired by her profound love for the environment and nature, which she fostered throughout her childhood in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Menikpura has a track record of developing significant global-level carbon models, including the Emissions Quantification Tool (EQT) for the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), the IGES GHG calculator, and the Tool for GHG Emissions in China. In addition to her modelling work, Dr. Menikpura has served as an official reviewer for evaluating APEX methodology and model developed by World Bank Group for assessing overall sustainability in both developed and developing countries. Most recently, Dr Menikpura conducted a review of both the methodology and carbon model developed by Local Partnerships in the UK for assessing carbon in Deposit Returns Schemes in Wales.
Thanks to her extensive professional expertise, Dr. Menikpura has made significant contributions to numerous reputable publications, including the Journal of Renewable Energy, the Journal of Cleaner Production, and the Journal of Waste Management, among others.
Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Menikpura pursued an education at the University of Peradeniya, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in agricultural engineering in 2005. She continued her academic efforts at the aforementioned university with a Master of Science in biosystems engineering in 2007. She concluded her studies at King Mongkut’s University of Technology in 2011, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in environmental technology. As a testament to her professional accomplishments, she has been presented with the Best Research Paper Award and Best Presenter Awards at numerous international conferences. In the coming years, Dr. Menikpura hopes to make significant contributions and influence individuals and communities in the realm of climate change by achieving Net Zero targets and advancing sustainable development strategies on a global level.
